Nigerian laments alleged inhuman treatment by Norway

Citizen Kingsley Joseph Aghado has cried out for help over inhuman treatment meted to him by Norwegian officials prior to his deportation to Nigeria.

In a petition to the House of Representatives Committee on Diaspora, a copy of which was made available to newsmen, Aghado lamented various degrading conditions he faced in the hands of Norwagian police, prison and courts officials.
According to him, he was arrested on trumped up charges in 2009.

He said: “The charges kept changing as the former charge fell like a pack of cards. Initially I was found guilty but was to be discharged and acquitted by an appellate court.”

He claimed that Norway authorities accused him of sundry offences but could not produce any evidence in court. They also produced witnesses who could not even identify him.

Aghado insisted that he did not commit any offence and as such wondered why he could be put through such trouble.

He noted: “In the course of the trial/imprisonment I lost my marriage. I lost my education and my means of livelihood. On three occasions I attempted to commit suicide. I was psychotic for a long time and prison papers will show diagnosis of psychotic behaviour and continuous and long treatment for mental imbalance.”
He stated further that he was put in solitary confinement for six months out of the one year and nine months he was detained.

To make matters worse, Aghado said he was chained from neck to waist during the forced deportation where he was accompanied by two Norwegian policemen.
Also, his attempt to get the support of Nigerian officials proved abortive as the Norway escorts presented a forged document that wrongly presented Aghado as an ex-convict, forgetting that he has just been discharged and acquitted by an appellate Norwegian court.

Aghado who still has a valid Swedish residency cannot return to Europe because of the trumped up charges against him. He is praying the Nigerian authorities to intervene and save his life from further deterioration in view of the tar brought upon him by Norway.
