The faction of the Nigeria Governors’
Forum being led by the Governor of Plateau State, Mr. Jonah Jang, is on
the verge of opening its secretariat.
The secretariat, which is going to be at Maitama District of Abuja, is to be headed by an administrator, Mr. Osaro Onaiwu.
Sources close to the faction said the
decision to open a separate office was because of the refusal of the
Chairman of the Forum, who is also the Governor of Rivers State, Mr.
Rotimi Amaechi, to allow Jang assume office.
Amaechi was declared the winner of the
NGF election, which was held in Abuja on Friday with 19 votes against
Jang, who scored 16 votes.
Onaiwu, who confirmed the story, said he would be in office pending the appointment of a director general to head the office.
“Yes, I will be the administrator of the
office pending the appointment of a director general who will head the
office,” he said.
When contacted, the Director-General of
the NGF, Mr. Asishana Okauru, said he was not in Abuja and would not be
able to comment on the matter.
Meanwhile, a group has applauded the
Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, for reportedly setting the
record straight regarding the current imbroglio rocking the Nigeria
Governor’s Forum.
A group, The National Democratic
Frontiers, said with the explanation of Obi on what led to the emergence
of Jang as the “Chairman” of the Forum, it was clear that some forces
were behind what it called the “rebellious attitude of Amaechi” against
the forum in particular and by extension his party , the Peoples
Democratic Party.”
In a statement in Abuja on Monday, by
its President, Jubril Shema and Secretary, Donald Ojobo, the group said
it was curious that a body that did not have the tradition of holding
elections to pick its chairman, would suddenly make a U-turn and insist
on an election with the incumbent chairman as the arrowhead of such
agitation.
Meanwhile, Jang has restated his resolve along with his colleagues to work and strengthen the bond of unity in NGF.
A statement by the Director of Press and
Public Affairs to the Governor, Mr. James Mannock, on Monday, quoted
Jang as saying the NGF was a family in which there was no issue that
could not be resolved or settled among them as family members.
He stressed that the modalities for this
reconciliation were being implemented with the result of which more
governors were making solidarity calls to him and pledging their
cooperation.

ReplyDeleteIf this is a prelude to what is going to happen in 2015, I weep for my country Nigeria.
If there is no love and unity among 36 governors , what should there be unity among Nigerians? Are all these part of Nig pressing problems ??????
ReplyDeleteDont weep 4 Nigerian weep 4 Amaechi 4 his lack of repect nd power monger attitude
ReplyDeleteAnonymous 9.05, i want u 2 b sincere, tell me wat is Amaechis fault in all dis? is it wrong 2 contest election and win? U pple always allowed sentiment 2 over shadow ur reasoning.

ReplyDeleteThis old man from Plateau has nothing to offer his state except crises, talkless of NGF. He should not allow himself to be use like mumu, when your younger brothers Yuguda and Shema tactifully withdrew and left you acting without any legal backing. PDP and Presidency should stop this lawless act, Nigerians are watching them as they no get conscience.
ReplyDeleteall this drama is caused by our selfish & visionless leader GEJ.. He is only scared that Ameachi is better than him & might want to contest 4 president come 2015. if u watch all those that supported amaechi u will see that they are all governors who put their citizens interest first..
ReplyDeleteMr Anonymous, how is Amaechi better than GEJ? U people should stop make frivolous statements, in what area and aspect? Amaechi must learn to respect d office of the president not minding who occupies it. U cannot disregard d office of d president and expect gratitude in return. Pride definitely goes before a fall.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you totally. GEJ has not had peace cos he won election. Some northerners insisted they will make our country ungovernable and we kept quiet. To rub salt on injury, Amaechi flagrantly shows disrespect to the office of d president. The show of shame of the governors have nothing to do with GEJ. His aides may make moves,as well as, those governors who support GEJ. Let us learn to show respect so we can earn respect.Long live Nigeria!!!
DeleteAnonymous 9:05 and Anonymous 2:07, does it mean that Amaechi does not have a right to contest for a re-election? Bcos if that's what you are trying to imply, then Jonathan should bow to northerners and not contest for 2015. I'm not a fan of Amaechi, PDP-GF or the NGF etc but it is obvious that Amaechi contested and won the election. The losers should graciously accept defeat. If the Presidency, PDP, PDP-GF etc spend so much energy towards influencing such a small scale election and cannot accept defeat when they lost fair and square then I'm scared of what will become of this country come 2015.
ReplyDeleteFor once Nigeria has a man who can stare down evil. Is it becuase he challeged the illegal withdrawal of state funds by FGN for a corrupt subsidy system or because he challenged GEJ and Dickson on the Soku wells that belong to Rivers State ? Is it because he exposed incompetent Niger Delta Affairs minister on East West road or because he challenged madam president on the building of schools in Okrika ? The office of the president is just too powerful for a federation like ours. Now ranked the most corrupt and incompetent. That office should be pulled down and restructured if we are to progress. Amaechi is no angel but I respect his spirit and fearlessness
ReplyDeleteLet's keep watching as d drama unfolds. An election btw jst 32 governors ended in shambles, I wander if we r truly gonna ve a free n fair election come 2015. I really weep 4 our gr8 country Nigeria. Oh God liste 2 our cries n give us good leaders who will listen 2 d cry of d poor masses.
