The Nigeria Football Federation has urged Nigerians to troop out to welcome the Golden Eaglests who are expected to arrive the country today after theit silver outing at the U-17 African Championships in Marrakech, Morocco.
The team are due back in the early hours of today at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Ikeja. Assistant Director and spokesman of the NFF, Ademola Olajire urged Nigerians yesterday to turn out en-masse to welcome the Golden Eaglets.
“The Eaglets deserve a red carpet reception. They did absolutely well despite not winning the trophy. The Golden Eaglets, who were unlucky to lose the African U-17 Championship trophy to Cote d’Ivoire in Morocco, were playing at the tournament for the first time since 2007. This team has already been tipped for greatness by several seasoned and respected commentators across the world.”
Olajire noted that the Eaglets deserve the red carpet reception as they did Nigeria proud with their high-scoring and fantastic displays in Morocco.
The Golden Eaglets, runners-up at the African U-17 Championship in Morocco, will represent Africa at the FIFA U-17 World Cup UAE 2013, alongside Cote d’Ivoire, Tunisia and Morocco. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday
