A reliable source told Vanguard, “The ransom was paid more than a week before they were released, but the kidnappers still held them captive because the other victims held with them in their camp were yet to pay their own ransom. It was only when paid up that they released all of them.”
“One of the victims is Mr. Frank Elumeze, a top official of the Delta State Water Board, who was also kidnapped, some weeks ago, he was released along with the Rhodes-Vivours on Tuesday after his own ransom was paid,” the source, a senior security official disclosed.
He asserted, “The camp where they held them is in Delta state, it is not security agents that freed them, nobody knew where they kept them, they contacted the families and the judge’s family paid N2 million , while somebody else paid N1 million to bring the total paid for the three of them to N3 million.”
“The victims were blindfolded by the kidnappers and taken to somewhere near the Church of God Mission International in Benin City before they opened their eyes and asked them to find their way,” he added.
As at Thursday, security agents were yet to locate the camp used by kidnappers.
The trio were abducted on May 10 on their way to Benin, Edo State, for a wedding.
The kidnappers had initially asked for N200 million ransom
According to the source, “The released official of the Delta Water Board is in a hotel, somewhere, resting, but has promised to resume work by Monday.”
