JTF arrests 65 suspected Boko Haram members, kills 10 others in Borno



As the emergency rule declared by President Goodluck Jonathan entered the third day, Special Forces have arrested 65 suspected Boko Haram members in Borno State.

The Director of Defence Information, Brig. Gen. Chris Olukolade, said in an electronic mail on Saturday that the insurgents were arrested while trying to escape from various camps taken over by security forces.

He said the JTF also recovered 11 vehicles, four tricycles and 24 handsets from the fleeing terror suspects.

He said all the suspects were being interrogated by the JTF, adding that troops had taken over several camps of the fleeing terror suspects.

He said, “In continuation of the mission to rid the nation’s territories of insurgency activities, the Special Forces have apprehended 65 persons confirmed to be terrorists as they made attempt to infiltrate Maiduguri while fleeing from various camps now under attack.

“A total of 11 vehicles, four tricycles and 24 handsets were also seized in the process.  All the suspects are in custody of Joint Task Force and are currently being interrogated.

“Meanwhile, many of the camps of the terrorists have been found deserted by fleeing insurgents when troops of the Special Task Force stormed the localities.  The facilities have been occupied by troops.

“All the suspects are in custody of Joint Task Force and are currently being interrogated.”

Olukolade added that 10 suspected Boko Haram members were killed in a gun duel with the force at Gamboru Ngala, Borno State.

He said the troops dislodged terror suspects while carrying out attacks on innocent citizens in the area.

Olukolade said assorted weapons including Rocket Propelled Grenade launchers,  rifles, ammunition, and  magazines were recovered from the militants.
