2015: Gov Aliyu dissociates self from presidential posters, orders removal

Governor Babangida Aliyu of Niger on Saturday dissociated himself from posters depicting him to be seeking the PDP presidential ticket for the 2015 election.

Aliyu distanced  himself from the posters in reaction to the news of the seizure of the posters by security agents in Kaduna, at a one-day North Central Zonal Security Awareness Workshop in Minna.

The governor said that he had not ordered anyone to produce any poster for him and that he had no intention of doing so yet.

He said that as a loyal member of the party, he would abide by the party’s guideline of June 2014 deadline before making any pronouncement of my political ambition.

Aliyu appealed to his supporters and other well wishers to remove such posters, wherever they were found.

He said that pasting of such posters was over heating the national’s body politic.
Aliyu said he had earlier on ordered the removal of the posters of  governors Chibuike Amaechi of Rivers and Sule /Lamido of Jigawa, which flooded the state about a week ago, in keeping with the party’s directive.

He appealed to politicians to stop over heating the polity  in order to allow President Goodluck Jonathan to be focused in  delivering the dividends of democracy to the people.

The governor called for the establishment of border police to help in strengthening national security along the  borders and check criminal elements.
He said the nation’s security workforce was  grossly inadequate to police the nation.

Aliyu noted that the use of the military to perform internal security duties was  against their  traditional role.

He called for suitable accommodation,  social welfare and equipment for the police in a bid to boost their morale to perform their task effectively.

The Inspector General of Police, Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar , in his speech, said that the police were doing their  best to address the security challenges of the country.

He called for enhanced and better police-community relationship to assist the police to achieve more. (NAN)
