In his words....'I don PORT go...I don upgrade to MTN' says the popular Nigerian TV drama comedian, Afeez Oyetoro popularly known as Saka
Video Below.....
The battle for the attention of Nigerian mobile subscribers has taken a new leap as MTN went bullish with this advert. Mobile Number Portability will almost be a battle between mobile telecom brands (MTN) and (Etisalat).
You still don't know what number portability means? Number portability simply means you can migrate from one network to another network without changing your Line (Just Like SAKA did)
Nigerian mobile phone subscribers have joined subscribers in other countries worldwide that port their numbers from one network operator to another with the inauguration of the first phase of the Mobile Number Portability (MNP) service by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) Monday in Lagos.
Singapore was the first country to inaugurate MNP in 1997, followed by United Kingdom and The Netherlands in 1999 while Spain, Switzerland and Sweden inaugurated MNP between 2001 and 2002.
United States inaugurated in 2003, South Africa in 2006 and Ghana in 2012 while Nigeria just joined the league.
MTN who apparently identified this early enough have been having a direct go at Etisalat. If you’ve missed out on the ads guiding consumers on how to move from Etisalat for example MTN has since raised the ante.
This advert portraying arguably Etisalat’s most recognisable brand ambassador, Saka (Hafiz Oyetoro) as one of the first to move to MTN certainly narrows down the MNP battle to the two brands. That of course cannot be the entire story but it is already a huge part of the central theme of the MNP wars.
It remains to be seen whether the ad generates the desired bottom line – to get Etisalat subscribers moving to MTN. One thing is clear, The Telecoms companies have a battle in their hands and when the wars get won and lost the biggest winner will be the Nigerian consumer. That’s why we care

Wow,Nice advert.I was amaze when I saw the whole MTN nd ETISALAT paparazzzi.
ReplyDeletehahahaha i don port go
ReplyDeleteSaka is just very foolish not to be business trusted at all,how much would he has bin paid dat will be more dan intergrity
ReplyDeleteDis Saka is ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteHim fit go jail because I think those celebrities always sign lifetime contract. I wish he does not use his hands to destroy his own career. Well na Naija, we don't really know what happened. I hope they sought out themselves. we are watching.
ReplyDeleteDon't judge him because u don't know the terms of his contract with etisalat. If his contract with them have ended, he have the right to renew or move on. He is not a fool.
ReplyDeleteWhy is he foolish? he is a good business man,u don't know his terms of contract with etisalat and I am sure MTN would have cross checked, to avoid any legal actions by etisalat, MTN has a wonderful marketing strategy. Thumbs up Saka u are very smart
ReplyDeleteWhy call him foolish in the first place? He Ȋ̝̊̅§ also in business remember. Abi na eem papa get Etisalat? He Ȋ̝̊̅§ simply doing another paid job, after Ãℓ̊ℓ̊ Footballers no dey go transfer? What's with †ђξ intergrity crap. Etisalat could easily Hλ√ƺ dumped him αήϑ we won't say "Jack" He's just his own Capitalist
ReplyDeleteWhat I find most intriguing, as a student of brand marketing, is the creativity of the concept and its execution. The messaging undertones and connotations are just amazing. It really rubs it in.
ReplyDeleteThe advertising agency responsible for this 'coup' deserves an award!!
Kudos.
Talk about the Net work providers, which is better, MTN OR ETISALAT? WHICH OF THEM IS NOT DUPING NIGERIANS WITH THE HORRIBLE SERVICES THEY ARE PROVIDING? Saka is in business and very creative and smart for that matter, he has no blames whatsoever, even if you call him foolish 1000 times, it does not affect the money he is getting. If the advert will change the net work providers and cause them to live up to expectations, well and good for all Nigerians, but for Saka, just let him be!
ReplyDeleteWho is that fool that said "SAKA" would be jailed for jilting here? Were you there when he signed the contract? Do you know how many years contract he signed? Besides, who told you celebs signs "lifetime" contract? Just as Wizkid did to EME right? I see no reason why some Nigerians remained a numb-skull till date!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, if you really care to know, His contract with Etisalat was due and he signed a new deal with MTN, he did MTN great, Etisalat saw that and felt bad for losing him. They valued him after losing him and it is not possible for them to get him back again. They'll need to wait till his contract with MTN is over too and that's IF MTN didn't renew his contract before its due date.
Come to think of it, MTN paid X7(times seven) of what Etisalat paid him.
