Two years after Bauchi attack on corps members: Victims’ families seek justice

Memories of the 2011 horror in Bauchi State where ten corp members were sent to their early graves came alive yesterday in Lagos, as families and friends of the murdered corps members gathered on Victoria Island to remember the youths whose lives were cut short while serving their fatherland.

The affected families, also known as ‘Friends of Aik’, however, called on the federal and state governments to bring the perpetrators of the dasdardly act to book.

Representatives of the families, Mr. Teidi Ayodele and Nnaemeka Ukeoma said two years after the horror, the federal government is yet to fulfil its promises to the victims.

According to the convener, Pastor Onwurah Ikechukwu,”the federal government only compensated the affected families to the tune of N5m each in 2011 without fulfilling other pledges like offering a member of the family a job in a federal parastal of their choice as well as bringing the culprits behind this attack to book.”

“Since the incidence occurred, some of the family members of the deceased have also succumbed to the cold hands of death, while many others can no longer live normal lives again due to the haunting memory of the sudden demise of their loved ones, who represented their beacon of hope.

“As a country, we have been through this too many times yet without any visible progress. We have chosen this occasion to come together with a view to seeking meaningful action to prevent more tragedies like this in the future and to restate our demand for the government to make its promises to the families of the slain corp members.”
