Suspected Mushin Gang Amourer Arrested

A suspected Mushin robbery gang amourer, Waheed Ogungbe, 24, has been arrested by operatives at the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, Adeniji Adele, Lagos Island, for unlawful possession of firearms and allegedly keeping guns for a suspected robbery gang now at large.
He was arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court on a one count charge of unlawful possession of firearms without license.
The police alleged in the charge sheet that the accused, a resident of 23, Jinadu Street, Mushin, Lagos, southwest Nigeria was arrested following a tip off from residents of Jinadu Street, Mushin, Lagos that they suspected the accused, a native doctor nicknamed Okooloyun, to be keeping arms for criminal elements in Mushin with the influx of questionable elements into his apartment early in the morning and evening on a daily basis.
During interrogation, Waheed allegedly confessed that he is not the owner of the gun the police found in his apartment.
He said he was only keeping the gun for one of his clients who patronises him as native doctor.
“I am a native doctor who specialises in taking care of pregnant women and the sick.
“I also prepare concoctions and charms for some men who always come to keep guns in my house to protect them from gun shots and machete cuts, but I don’t know what they use the guns to do, and am not an armed robber.
“I promise to dissociate myself from them if I am set free,” he allegedly told the police.
After investigation by a polie team led by Inspector Banjoko Oluwemimo, Police Prosecutor Supol C.N. Odii charged the accused to court for illegal possession of firearms without license granted by the Inspector General of Police.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge and the magistrate Mrs. A.A. Famobiwo admitted him to bail in the sum of N300,000 with two surties in like sum who must have proof of tax payment to the Lagos State government, while one of the surties must be a blood relation.
She adjourned the matter till 19 April, 2013 for mention.
The accused was moved to Ikoyi prison pending when he would perfect the bail conditions.
