The trial judge, Justice Marshal Mukoro of High Court 1, who handed down the sentence told the convict that he is to die by hanging.
The convict was arraigned on a two-count charge of conspiracy to commit armed robbery and armed robbery, offences punishable under Sections 6(b) and 1(2)(a) respectively of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act Cap. RII Volume 14, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
In the first count, Julius Aboy and others now at large were reported to have on or about the 4th day of March, 2011 in Warri, conspired with others now at large to commit armed robbery.
In the second count, Julius Aboy and others now at large were also reported to have, on or about the 4th day of March, 2011 in Warri, robbed one Godwin Gwuene of N955, 600, while armed with a gun. The money was said to be Ususu contribution (savings), belonging to workers, serving as cleaners in a company in Warri.
The armed robbery gang, of which Aboy was allegedly a member, ran out of luck when an oncoming vehicle knocked down their getaway motorbike at the scene of the crime, leading to the arrest of the convict and killing of another member of the gang by an angry mob.
Justice Mukoro said the excuse of poverty, which the convict gave as reason of dropping out of school and venturing into crime was not tenable, as poverty was not a licence for criminality. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

If u kill this poor criminal boy by hanging for conspiring with other at large to steal less than a Million naira, what about the pension thief, what abt the Perm second and other too, what about demeji bankole? ReplyDeletePls Nigerians, leave armed robbery and go into pen robbery. You can make more money from pen robbery and if caught, you give 0.1% of it as plea bargain, simple! So why bother to go into armed robbery which carries death penalty? (Am only been sarcastic anyway and not encouraging crime)

I think dis boy need to be sent to a rehabilitation centre to change his mindset abt goin to commit a crime due to d poor family background. Death penalty is too much as a penalty to his offence. ReplyDeleteCorrect. ARMED Robbery is different from stealing. However as it is done in China stealing over a certain amount should attract death penalty. Unfortunately the current crop of our legislators will never pass such a law because they are more guilty of corruption than the executive. Neither can such a law emanate from the current executive because it is the worst corrupt regime Nigeria has ever had. See our dilema!

As the officer lead the beggar to his execution, the beggar told him that he knew a secret of how to make a mango tree grow overnight and bear fruit immediately. It would be a pity that the secret would be lost if he got executed.
The officer decided to halt the execution and he brought the beggar to the judge, who in turn brought him to the king. So the king asked the beggar what the secret was. The beggar replied that for such a miracle to happen, the mango seed must be planted by someone who had not stolen anything before. So he turned to the officer and said: Would you want to plant the seed? The officer immediately refused saying that he had shoplifted before.
Then the beggar turned to the judge and asked if he would plant the seed. The judge declined saying that he had taken things that belonged to others and kept them for his own use. So the beggar turned to the king and said: O king, then it is left to you to plant the seed. But the king excused himself by saying that he had taken things without paying for them. ReplyDeleteso what about book haram who are killing every day in that country? are this law not in the country that they are keeping them in prison an what about the people sending them to go killing the innocent people are they not in that country are they the masses friend or does that same law not affect them or are the above those law? maybe we need to start having the law review by the masses themselves as it has come to this that the legistature can no longer review there laws and the judiciary are now doing what they so feel good to them.
ReplyDeleteUntil we fight for our constitution to be review this mess will never stop,anyway call it stealing, armed-robbery, robbery,misappropriation,looting,embezzlement,kick-back or inflation of contracts e.t.c.before our constitution was made we don't have pen-robber's in our land,but now they are every where then it is our duty to force the law maker's to make provision for them in the constitution even though they will be the first victim, in Asian pen-robbery and armed-robbery carry same death penalty, why not in Nigeria.
