Bus Conductors Association of Nigeria, BCAN, Lagos State chapter, has finally unveiled uniforms for commuter bus drivers and conductors in the state and other states across Nigeria.
The official unveiling of the proposed uniform took place Thursday during the inauguration of executives of Lagos State chapter of BCAN held at the Suites Supremo Hotel in Obadore, Akesan, Lagos state, South West, Nigeria.
According to the National Publicity Secretary of the association, Mr Francis Odinukaeze, all commuter bus drivers and conductors in Lagos state and other states of the federation would soon begin to wear the new uniforms and badges in line with the provision of the traffic law.
He explained further the need to sanitise commercial road transportation in Lagos state and other states of the federation so that registered operators in the sector could be proud of their job while quacks would be eliminated was the reason behind the new uniform.
Also speaking during the unveiling, Mr Ajayi Adebola, who represented the Lagos state Commissioner for Commerce and Industry at the event, commended the association for coming out with a model uniform for their registered members, advising them to ensure that the proposed uniform is sent to the relevant ministry at the Lagos state secretariat in Alausa for proper assessment and authorisation.
NE gathered that the new uniform, if eventually approved, would have name of the wearer imprinted on the chest, the registered number at the back and an indentity card would be issued for all duly registered conductors.
The Lagos state Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Kayode Opeifa, had disclosed during a sensitisation programme for transporters on the new Road Traffic Law held recently at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium, Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos that there is need to harmonised the operations of all commuter bus drivers and conductors in the state for proper identification.
