Ogun Police Command has arrested seven suspects in connection with Monday’s attack on the Olofin of Ado-Odo, Oba Lateef Akanni, by some of his subjects.
Pandemonium had broken out on Monday in Ado-Odo, Ado-Odo Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State when some aggrieved residents of the town attacked the monarch and stripped him naked.
The mob also burnt down the monarch’s palace in the commotion that ensued when some aggrieved youths, said to be opposed to his continued reign over the town, attacked him as he was being driven out of the town.
Our correspondent gathered that the monarch’s assailants, who were protesting the validation of his appointment by a Supreme Court judgement delivered on January 12, 2009, forcibly stopped the vehicle conveying him, dragged him out of the vehicle and physically assaulted him.
Oba Adeniran was said to be currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in Abeokuta, the state capital, for the injuries he sustained on his head and other parts of the body during the attack on him.
The wives and children of the monarch as well as palace staff, who were lucky to escape with some degrees of injuries, were also said to have been molested by the assailants.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Command, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, told our correspondent on Tuesday that seven persons, suspected to have taken part in the attack on the Ado-Odo monarch, had been arrested.
Adejobi, a deputy superintendent of police, added that policemen deployed in the town would continue to maintain security and order.
He said, “Seven suspects have already been arrested and the situation has been brought under control. Our men are still in the town to maintain security, law and order.”

See how they are quick to make arrests as justice in Nigeria is for the big man. Next time government should pay attention to the wishes of the masses that they have contempt for before imposing a monarch on them.
