NAF acquires Boeing 737-500 aircraft

The Nigerian Air Force has announced its acquisition of a Boeing 737-500 aircraft in partnership with United Airline.

Speaking on the acquisition, the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Alex Badeh, assured Nigerians of safety in the air, stressing that NAF’s aircraft and personnel were in perfect shape.

Badeh, according to a statement by NAF, gave the assurance in Abuja at the official inauguration of the aircraft.

He said the newly acquired aircraft by United Airline was under a joint partnership between the Aeronautical Engineering and Technical Services of Nigerian Air Force Holding Company and Solicom Engineering Nigeria Limited as a Public-Private Partnership.

“I am so glad with this aircraft, every Air Force personnel contributed to this aircraft,” the CAS said.
According to Badeh, the acquisition is the first in the series of aircraft that the force intends to use for carrying troops, adding that its purchase would not deny C-130 and other aircraft in the NAF hanger of patronage.

Earlier in her speech, the Minister of State for Defence, Mrs. Olusola Obada, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Alhaji Aliyu Numa, said with the coming on board of the Boeing 737-500 series, it was hoped that NAF would build its airlift very soon since it had the capability to do so.

The Group Managing Director, NAFHC, Air Vice Marshal, Ibrahim Kure, said the aircraft would commence operation with initial client base of mainly the armed forces, police and other para-military officers.

He also said that the aircraft would be available for charter, adding that this would contribute to personnel motivation as passengers would be airlifted at reduced fares.
