There was panic in the Niger Delta on Wednesday after the region's militant group, the Movement for Emancipation of Niger Delta, announced that it would resume hostilities in the country on Friday.
MEND in a statement signed by its spokesman, Gbomo Jomo, said the series of attacks codenamed "Hurricane Exodus" would begin at midnight.
The group described the planned attacks as "a direct repercussion of a forged threat letter contrived by the Nigerian and South African governments purporting to have originated from MEND".
