An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates' Court on Wednesday sentenced one Ismaila Jimoh,35, to six months imprisonment for stealing a goat.
The Police Prosecutor, Cpl. Bamikole Olasunkanmi, had told the court that the accused committed the offence on Feb.5, 2012 at Bakare Avenue, off Federal Housing Road in Ado-Ekiti.
He told the court that the accused stole the goat, valued at N10,000 and that the goat was later recovered from the convict.
Olasunkanmi said that the offence contravened section 383 and was punishable under section 390 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 30 Vol.11 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria.
Counsel to the convict Mr Raji Agaje, prayed the court to have mercy on the convict, since he had pleaded guilty.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Simeon Ojo, consequently, sentenced Jimoh to six months imprisonment with hard labour or an option of fine of N10,000 which must be compulsorily deposited with the court within a stipulated period of time.
The prosecutor commended the court for its patience and speedy trial and the comprehensive judgment delivered.

While some highly placed government officials are getting no jail time for stealing billions..
ReplyDeleteThe judiciary in this country is killing poor Nigerians
Chief Magistrate, Mr Simeon Ojo you are swift in passing judgment now. The goat was recovered and yet you went ahead to fine him 10,000 the exact value of the Goat. I hope you left the goat with Jimoh? Because when the elite drain states and Federal Reserve, you fine them negligible fractions of what they stole because you will get gratification from part of the loot and the rest you leave for the thieves. Tomorrow you too will become a SAN. Only God will save this country.
