JTF raids 7 communities, kills one in Delta


OPERATIVES of the Joint Task Force, JTF, was Saturday morning, alleged to have shot one person dead in Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State after raiding seven communities.

Ami Dada, the spokespersons for Egbema for Positive Change, a socio-cultural organisation, who spoke to Vanguard, listed the raided communities to include Elume- Ugbo, Itagbene, Itagbene- Zion, Okunfaba, Abadegbene, Adagbarasa and Asantuagbene.

Dada said the victim was shot dead at Elume-Ugbo village.

He added that the raid may be connected with the plan peaceful protest the people of the communities intended to embark on in furtherance of their protest against the state government and the authorities of Chevron Nigeria limited.

According to him, “at 5a.m., gunboats from the army (JTF) went to raid everybody in seven communities in Warri North local government area.”

One person was killed and at the moment they are still at the communities and everybody has fled from the communities to the neighbouring villages for safety.

“The attacked on the Ijaw people in the locality may be connected with the plan peaceful protest the people want to embark on in furtherance against the socio—economic and political injustice and marginalizations against them by the state government and oil multinational companies especially Chevron. The person was killed at Elume-Ugbo,” he said.

Meanwhile, the group in a release in Warri however gave 14 days ultimatum to all oil multinationals companies operating in Benin River Warri Local Government Area to immediately evacuate from the locality.

The statement titled, “Egbema radical group, no peace in BeninRiver, Warri North local government area of DeltaState”, issued 14 days ultimatum to reverse the 21 years of political marginalization by the Delta State Government against the people.
