Jonathan Blasts Buhari: Stop Boko Haram Now!!!

Jonathan and Buhari

President Goodluck Jonathan, Tuesday, sent a strong message to former Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari, pleading with him to spearhead the campaign to persuade members of the Boko Haram sect to accept dialogue, as a means of ending the orgy of violence in the North.

Similarly, Jonathan asked Buhari to emulate the role he ( Jonathan) played by going to meet militants in their vast hideouts in the Niger Delta to plead with them to lay down their arms and accept the general amnesty granted by the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua on June 25, 2009.

Jonathan said he expected Buhari to lead the way in persuading the Boko Haram insurgents in the North to stop bombings and enter into dialogue with the Federal Government with a view to ending the violence in the region, which is threatening to disrupt the economy of the region and Nigeria.

The President, who sent the message to Buhari through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe, accused the former head of state of making false allegations against him during his interview in London last week.

What Buhari told BBC in London
During the interview with the BBC, Buhari had said that the Federal Government should be held responsible for the worsening state of insecurity in Nigeria, accusing the leadership of not taking steps to halt the slide, which has claimed many lives and property in the region.

Buhari said: “The problem of terrorism is not confined to the North alone. Insecurity generally should be blamed on the Federal Government.

“The world is very much concerned about two things — the issue of security and economic wellbeing of a nation. Security is number one. A nation can only be economically viable if there is security. But how did all these crises start? How did the crises begin and assume this dimension?

“Until now, everyday, they abduct people and receive ransoms. How was the problem reduced? How did it start? What method was employed to convince them to mellow down?

“Similarly, what we should look at is, how did the Boko Haram start? We know all these. Security is the responsibility of the government.
“It is the responsibility of the Federal Government to know how this thing started and how to go about it.”

Jonathan takes on Buhari
But Okupe asked Nigerians to demand from Buhari what he had done as a leader in the North and a former head of state to halt the attacks by the sect.

He said: “Nigerians should ask him (Buhari) that as a former Head of state and as someone who wants to be president again, what he has done to end this insurgence in the country.

“Or is it when he becomes President, he will stop the insurgence? No, it does not work that way. He should emulate President Jonathan who went to the creeks of the Niger Delta canvassing peace and dialogue with the militants of the Niger Delta.

Everybody knows that it was General Buhari, who vowed to make Nigeria ungovernable for President Jonathan if he loses the last presidential election.

It was in Minna, that he said that once votes are countered and he loses that people should go for blood. He said in Hausa language. General Buhari is the person who sowed the wind that the nation is now reaping in whirlwind.

“He is not in any position to apportion blames on the issue of violence in the North or in Nigeria in general. He is a protagonist of violence. The only position he sees for not being the President is to call for violence. This government has tried as much as possible to contain some of Buhari’s unguarded statements. I don’t think anybody in Nigeria will take Buhari very serious when he makes such comments.

“If there is anybody to blame, General Buhari comes number one on that list. Have you ever seen General Buhari visit BornoState or condemn the acts of the Boko Haram or condole whether Christians or Muslims that have been killed?

“A man who can traverse the whole length and breadth of Nigeria, yet he cannot use that clout that he has and get leaders together to put an end to the insurgence in the country. And yet he finds it comfortable to blame other people. What has he done as a former Head of State to help Nigeria and Nigerians stop the militancy in the North or in other parts of the country?”

  11. You all condemning Buhari are FOOLS! Is Buhari the present Commander-in-Cheif of the armed forces? What resources has he got at his disposal to put an end to this insurgence? The truth be told, it is the sole responsibility of the President to protect all its citizens and the present government has failed woefully in that regard. If you have any implicating evidence against Buhari, what stops from you from getting him arrested and prosecuted? A failed government is the only one that aportions blame to an individual. No single person is bigger than the government. So let the government wake up to its responsibilities. You giving the excuse of Buhari vowing to make the government ungovernable is nothing but a flimsy excuse. Anybody could have said that out of annoyance. Has any of the boko haram suspects arrested and interrogated come out with any implicating evidence against Buhari? If all the boko haram suspects arrested on daily basis are properly investigated and interrogated, by now, we should have gotten to the root of this problem. So I strongly believe its the government that has failed in its work. Probably there's something the goverment is trying to hide from this whole thing!

  18. Okupe says alot of things we should disregard. The attack lion is just on one of his rants. When did Buhari ever say those things, if he did he should be tried. but if they can not be proven then someone should get stick for rumour mongering as it is called in Bayelsa. far as i know, buhari hardly has enough money yet alone to sponsor boko haram. this govt should stop telling tales and find a solution to insecurity. the kidnappers all over the south is it buhari too that is sponsoring it?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Yes without been told i know that buhari is the number one sponsored of boko, if not which way did he want to make Nigeria ungovernable for GEJ after he loose the election, the difference is wild clear but God is watching u and ur boys continue to suck innocent blood, ur cup will surely full one day.

  20. All the innocent blood shed by Boko Haram (Buhari boys)must pursue Buhari and his generation together with other hidden sponsors of Boko Haeram.

  24. If Buhari is involved in Boko haram, what is the Government doing about it? Why is he not arrested? Or is he bigger now than the government? I wonder why these our Northern brothers don't accept truth! Ever since the Boko Haram violence started, Buhari has been the only former President who has never condemn their killings and bombings, the only Northern leader who has never visited nor condole the victims including the ones in his state! President Jonathan must be praised for accomodating Buhari's despise and affront and challenges Malam El Rufai's insults and curses, and other insults from the ACF. Keep it up sir. Don't kill anyone. Keep your hands clean and allow God to take care of them all.

  25. A leader should be a ruler! If GEJ cannot rule, let him not lead! Simple! Clueless leader.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Doyin Okupe is really beginning to lose it.If you and your paymaster Jonathan know that Buhari is the sponsor of boko haram, how come he is still walking around free, when your boss is the commander-in-chief and chief security officer of the nation?

Someone said boko haram started with loss of the last election by Buhari. When the leader of boko haram,Yussuf, was murdered with some other members;I remember it was Yaradua that was president!Boko Haram hav been unleashing violence, albeit on a smaller scale, long b4 the killing of their leader or the 2011 election.

The level of incompetence and cluelessness in this adminstration may only be rivalled by the ill-fated Shagari adminstration.

I may agree that their is a certain political arrogance amongst northern leaders, which appears to be historical.I may also agree that the sponsors of Boko haram are likely to have northern provenance. However Okupe instructing Buhari to go fishing for the terrorist, while his paymaster Jonathan has spent over 2 Trillion naira in finding and neutralising these terrorists without success, smacks of the most distasteful case of ass licking!

Nigerians urgently need a reprieve from these political musketeers and clueless cartoons in power today. However the north must re-invent its "baa kwomi" leadership ethos and political/fiscal arrogance if they ever hope a lead Nigeria democratically, any time soon.

    ReplyDelete
  27. So as it is, Buhari is stronger and more powerful dan our clueless President? if u are convince dat Buhari is the sponsor of BH, wat hv u done or doing abt it as d president? Am baffled. No wonda u brot in thief like Doyin to b defending u.We all knw wat he did in in Benue state.

    ReplyDelete
  28. the only credible opposition to PDP is Buhari. that s why the govt is saying all this against him. Anybody living in the north whether muslim, xtain, pegan knows who is Buhari. Buhari said Nigerians should resist rigging of elections to the core, that lets transparency prevail in all ramification, is this a threat to any sensitive govt? Was Buhari the brain behind Fuel pump price increase which mark the beginning of failure of this govt? North still remain where some kind of social vices are absent. Can you openly visit ATM machine in some places in the south? Nobody says Buhari must rule, but this gangster called PDP has turn to a diamond that no other metal can cut. the only trusted and tested person that can do this for now is Buhari.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Since u have find out their leader or sponsor, what are u still waiting for? Go ahead and arrest him(buhari) whot evidence are we still waitin for?

    ReplyDelete
  30. BUHARI should show leadership. It is as if the whole North has no leader! Boko Haram is destroying the North. Whilst they do so, other parts of the country are moving on at a very fast pace., shame on our Northern leaders you have failed us completely!
It is not only when you secure power at the centre would you be able to develope. After all, the Southern Ibos have not held power at the centre, but compare the literacy level there with those of the North West that has help power for many years! You will be astonished! May Allah give us a true leader!

If truely they mean business and know wot they are saying it shouldn't be wen Buahri talked @ d BBC in London dey shud be saying all these. I think a Good governance should be PROACTIVE not REACTIVE.... Pls don't get me wrong, am not saying Buhari is Blameless bt.... Can some1 just point to one tin that is noticeable in GEJ administration, continous Power failure, Unemployment is @ rise, embezzlement of Subsidy Money, freedom and Amnesty for the corrupt officials...... His Administration shud just keep quiet jooooor. Except story wen I have no cloth........ He increase the pump price for them to be embezzle, all of dem na samee joorrrr.....

  34. when Bakasi boys were in rampage in the south East,it took only the sincere collaboration of both the people and the leaders of the region with the federal government to arrest the situation. When the militants came up,the same thing happened. But in the case of bokoharam, the case is different, both the people and the leaders have refused to cooperate with the government for a speedy resolution of the crisis. There seems to be a kind of conspiracy against the government of the day in the north. If not,why has the northern leadership(if any)NOT BEEN ABLE to wade into this issue?Or are they ashamed of having failed their people for all the 37years they held power? What about the All powerful Emirs?Maybe they know that the feudal system they head is responsible for the backward state of the north or that afterall, the stance of the bokoharam against western education, the arch-nemesis of the feudal system,is to their advantage?Maybe...why this conspiracy of silence and inaction?Jonathan is doing all he could in such a hostile environment, how successful he will become is determined by the level of cooperation he gets from the northern people. America for ten years could not nab Binladen until that medical doctor gave the needed information. The north has refused to either isolate itself from bokoharam, which would have made their capture easier or give the government the needed information about their activities so as to easily clean up the mess.Rather, they hide these terrorists and harbour them while expecting the government to do the magical. The problem of the north is neither jonathan nor his administration, rather, the problem of the north is the north, especially its weak and insincere leadership.Anyway, there is only one option yet to be considered by the federal government and i strongly draw the attention of the government to it.This option cannot be sabbotaged and will make the people to stop seeing the president as week.Mr president, simply instruct your soldiers to start bombing the troubled areas WHOLE AND ENTIRE-bomb the whole of Borno, yobe, kano and other troubled areas in the north as Obasanjo did in ODI.Herein lies the solution.

  35. Boko Haram is PDP as Gen. Azazi had mentioned during his life. But look at what happened to him.And I want u to rememeber Mr. President himself had earlier mentioned that he knows Boko Haram members,He said some are in his cabinate some are in army, police and so on. But why is he telling us that they ghost? It seems Mr. President cannot rule this country. For thus of u who're talking on Buhari, do u remember when Obasanjo was saying the election wsa do or die affair?

And so far, Nigeria has gone from bad to worse with d future not being so certain. Personally, I am tired of his non effectiveness. Just stop dishing out blames, take responsibility and take action so we may at least progress in the right direction.
