The federal government has called on her United States counterpart for an urgent assistance to curb insecurity and continous killings in the Northern parts of Nigeria.
Making the plea yesterday during a bilateral meeting with the United States Secretary, Senator John Kerry, in Washington, DC, Foreign Affairs Minister, Mr. Olugbenga Ashiru, said that the security challenges in Nigeria would soon become a history with the assistance of the United States.
The Minister pointed that there are many challenges that Nigeria is facing at present, stressing that the country will overcome those challenges in not too distant future with the support of the U.S.
His words: "The U.S. is now an important partner, and we will continue to work to strengthen the partnership we have with the United States of America"
Expressing the importance of the meeting with the United States officials at the Department of State, Ashiru appreciated the strategic partnership between Nigeria and the American government.
"And we believe that as a leading country in Africa, we can bring so much in terms of the maintenance of peace and security on the continent, which we do on behalf of the UN Security Council and also the United States" he noted.
He pressed further that the government of his country will continue to help Nigeria iher fight against the extremists.
Said he: "Nigeria is facing some tough violence in the northern part of the country, which we condemn, and we join with them in helping to fight against extremism.
