Igbo apex social-cultural Organisation, Ohanaeze Ndi-Igbo, has demanded compensation for Boko Haram victims.
This came as it noted that its position on the proposed amnesty for Boko Haram militants was misrepresented.
President-General of Ohanaeze, Chief Gary Enwo-Igariwe, in an interview with journalists on Sunday, said Ohanaeze would support any plan by the Federal Government to ensure peace and guarantee a healthy atmosphere for economic activities.
He said, “The statement on amnesty should not be taken in isolation. What was on the ground was the issue of anything that can be done to bring peace because our people want to live in peace in their environment, everything including every option of government. That was my statement. The Igbo will support anything that will bring peace.”
He however said the Federal Government should as a matter of equity, fairness and justice compensate Ndi-Igbo whom he said were the major victims of Boko Haram violence.
Ohanaeze, he said, recently raised a communique in one of its meetings where it said a list of those affected by the activities of the sect was being compiled for onward presentation to the Federal Government for adequate compensation.
He said, “In our communique, we have asked for the collation of all data of properties and the Igbo lives lost as a result of the activities of Boko Haram from the beginning to present to the Federal Government expecting that justice will also be done in that direction.”
Enwo- Igariwe, who added that there were other options available, noted that if the Federal Government, in its wisdom, felt the option of amnesty would be the best decision, it would receive the support of Ndi-Igbo.

It is not true to say that Igbos are the major victims of the Boko Haram activities. It is just that the Igbos think they are more important than the northen muslims that are being killed by the Boko Haram members.
