Ballot boxes belonging to Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission were among the items engulfed by an inferno at the Lagos office of the National Population Commission in Surulere, Lagos.
The fire started at about 3.15 p.m at the Babs Animashaun Street office of the NPC. The ballot boxes were stored there.
The Lagos State Director of Fire Services, Mr Rasaq Fadipe, said fire fighters and fire engines from Fire Service Departments in Isolo, Ilupeju and Sari-Iganmu, were battling to contain the inferno.
“The spill-over from the fire had affected a nearby building, but the fire-fighters were able to bring the situation under control shortly after their arrival.
“Our men are now battling to bring the fire in the building housing the ballot boxes under control,’’ he said.
Fadipe, however, added that there was no casuality. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday
