A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday in Abuja said the programme which started on March 25 and will run until June 16 ” intends to assess the efficacy of its visa code, which regulates the procedure for “short stay” visas in the Schengen System.
“It is aimed at improving cultural exchanges, economic growth, and the facilitation of mobility of travelers to the European Union, such as students, young people, motorists, and business people, while at the same time, measuring a high level of security”, the statement added.
The ministry enjoined Nigerians especially who have had sought for “short stay” visa in the last three years to take advantage of this survey and give their feedback on the efficacy of the procedure.
The Schengen Area is a group of 26 European countries which have abolished passport and immigration controls at their common borders.
It functions as a single country for international travel purposes, with a common visa policy. The Area is named after the town of Schengen in Luxembourg where the Schengen Agreement, which led to the Area’s creation, was signed.
