Dep Gov’s death painful – Governors


Governors Babatunde Fashola(Lagos); Rauf Aregbesola (Osun); Abiola Ajimobi (Oyo State); Emmanuel Uduaghan Delta; Olusegun Mimiko (Ondo); Abdulfatah Ahmed (Kwara); and Liyel Imoke (Cross River) were among eminent Nigerians who on Sunday expressed sadness over the death of the Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Mrs. Fumnilayo Olayinka.

Others are Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly, Adeyemi Ikuforiji; First Republic parliamentarian, Chief Ayo Fasanmi; and the Action Congress of Nigeria.
 
Fashola described the deceased as a great daughter of the Ekiti, who made her mark professionally and then offered to serve her people.
 
In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Mr. Hakeem Bello, the governor said he shared in the sorrow of Ekiti Governor Kayode Fayemi and the government and people of the state.
 
Aregbesola, in a condolence message, described the death as a terrible blow to the camp of the progressives in the country.
The governor said government at all levels must show commitment towards checking the cancer scourge.
 
Ajimobi, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Dr. Festus Adedayo, described Olayinka’s death as unfortunate, disheartening and sad.
 
Uduaghan described her as a calm, gentle easy going person, who identified and keyed into the projects of Governor Fayemi for Ekiti State.
 
Mimiko said the death of such a young, lively and active leader could not, but evoke deep feeling of loss and sadness.
 
Ahmed noted that her demise was a trying period for Fayemi, who he said, had lost a dependable lieutenant.
 
Imoke said although words seems inadequate to express the sorrow felt by her loss, “we must try to see beyond her demise and focus on the memories of her good works and life long achievements.”
Ikuforiji said what made her death more painful was the fact that her foray into politics after a successful career in the bank, had indeed started making Nigerian upper-class women to see politics as something that they too could embrace.
 
Fasanmi said, “Olayinka was a humble, intelligent and resourceful young woman, who worked tirelessly for the development of Ekiti State. I spoke with her on the telephone three weeks ago.”
The ACN in Oyo State, in a statement by its Chairman, Chief Akin Oke, said the South-West was passing through a difficult moment with the death of its illustrious sons and daughters.
