Former Commissioner for Trade, Investment and Cooperative in Oyo State, Kazeem Adedeji, was on Thursday arrested in Ibadan by men of the Special Anti-Fraud Unit, Lagos.
An impeccable source disclosed that the ex-commissioner was whisked away at a bank where his wife works at Agodi.
According to the source, “as soon as he left his wife’s office, the woman called to inform me that a team of police officers were about to take her away from her desk.
“The former commissioner had to make a detour to know what was the matter. On getting to the scene, the police team told him they were there to arrest him and his wife,” the source said.
At press time, the allegation against the former commissioner and his wife was still sketchy, but some of the associates of the ex-commissioner said the arrest had political undertone.
Adedeji was one of the aspirants who contested the party’s ticket with Abiola Ajimobi for the 2011 governorship election in the state.
He was later appointed a commissioner, but dropped in a minor cabinet reshuffle.
Before his arrest, the manager of the bank where the wife works tried to explain that the security men ought to have kept him abreast of the incident, the police took them to Iyaganku police station in Ibadan before being driven to Lagos.
When called to confirm the incident, DSP Olabisi Ilobanafor, Oyo state Police Public Relations Officer said she would call back after she might have been briefed. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday
