S.African man forced to clean graves after ‘racist’ post
A black South African man who used Facebook to announce plans to celebrate the drowning of 42 white children was forced to clean and visit their graves on Wednesday after his comments provoked over a dozen complaints.
Zama Khumalo had announced he would send out invites for a “Big Black Braai” (barbeque) with DJs and fireworks to mark the 1985 apartheid-era plunging of a school bus into a dam.
The post was reported to the country’s human rights body which found his comments to be “racist”.
As penance for his post, Khumalo had to agree to clean and lay flowers on the children’s graves in a Johannesburg cemetery on Wednesday.
The Human Rights Commission last month said it had received 13 complaints against Khumalo.
His post also said that “we will always celebrate the death of whiteness”.
Khumalo apologised and removed the post which he said had been made “in a state of anger and disappointment”.
