Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs, Dr. doyen Okupe, confirmed the development in Abuja.

According to Okupe, the pardon, which was approved by the National Council of a states, which met in Abuja last night, is in order.

Okupe said, “Yes, I am aware the NCS comprising the President, all former heads of states, all former Chief justices of the federation, governors and the leadership of the National Assembly, met and approved pardon for many Nigerians.

“The decision by the eminent Nigerians who met and took the decision is backed b the Nigerian Constitution.

“They have made their decisions, which may or may not be acceptable or palatable to all Nigerians. But it is about time in this country we Nigerians began to respect what is provided for in the constitution of Nigeria.

Others pardoned by the NCS were, Gen. Oladipo Diya, Major Bello Magaji, Mohammed Lima Biu, Major Gen. Abdulkarim Adisa, Major Segun Fadipe and former Bank of the North boss, Shettima Bulama.

A competent source told Vanguard that the names of those pardoned were not announced last night but secretly leaked to the media apparently to test the elections of Nigerians because of the former Bayelsa governor, whom President Jonathan recently described as ‘my political mentor’.

The source said the pardon to others were done in a bid to justify the former governor’s amnesty by Jonathan.
