MEN of the Joint Military Task Force, JTF, and the Police in Ughelli, Ughelli North Local Government Area, Delta State, weekend, arrested 12 suspected cult members in the area.
The police said they swooped on the suspects during their meeting, following a tip off. When interviewed, one of the suspects, (name withheld) said they were not members of secret society, adding; “The Neo Black Movement of Africa, NBM, which we belong to, is a registered and recognised non-governmental organisation in Nigeria and beyond and is not a secret society. We were meeting in view of the forthcoming Easter.”
Briefing newsmen, the Ughelli Police Area Commander, Mr. Awosola Awotinde, said the operation was jointly carried out by the Police, JTF and the local vigilante, adding that the suspects were rounded up at their meeting venue.
Noting that there was no exchange of gun fire between the suspects and security agents, he said: “We got a call that cult members were meeting, so my men, in conjunction with the JTF and our local vigilante immediately swung into action and the suspects were arrested and brought to the police station.” Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday
