"I Am Criticised Because I Am Not Hausa, Yoruba Or Igbo" — Vincent Enyeama

photo

Vincent Enyeama believes the criticism he has received in his international career have been largely fuelled by tribal sentiments not because of his performance in-between the sticks.

The former Enyimba keeper came under the spotlight severally in 2012 after making a series of costly errors in high profile matches for the national team and he believes his critics have been vocal because he is not from one of the three major tribes in Nigeria.

The 30-year old Super Eagles safe hands is from Akwa Ibom state, South-South Nigeria.

“My critics will remain as long I am still with the national team. I am criticised because I am not Hausa, Yoruba or Igbo but I am not worried,” Enyeama said in a recent interview.

The Maccabi Tel Aviv shot-stopper however holds no grudge against those who have slammed him in the past insisting that “Critics make the game sweet so why should I be angry? When they criticise me, they only make me stronger so I give them thanks.

“I also thank God for giving me strength,” he concluded.

  10. Enyema, you are talking nonsense. How can you say that you are criticized because you are not Hausa, Yoruba or Igbo. If you are not in the post, Nigerians we shout and curse the coach because they want you. They will also criticize you if make mistake. Other players bigger than you also receive criticisms for poor performance. Mikel was criticized for missing a penalty, Aiyegbeni is unwanted in the national team for his big manism and poor performance and so, who are that we should not criticize you.

Vincent, i am so disappointed in you. Its today that i know where you come from. And i am an Igbo man.NO APOLOGY! You have always been my best, and my wife your vocifarious fan! It's like the spirit of Odewinge is about to possess you. Go and ask about the verbal vitrolics unleashed on Emma Okalla, Patrick Okalla, Best Ogedemgbe, Peter Rufai etc, and these keepers were even better than you, and not from AkwaIbom. Nigerians has not criticized you half of what Keshi, Olise, Siasia, Jayjay, Alijeje, Segun Odegbami, Henry Nwosu etc, got. Pls appologise to Nigerian fans. We don't care where you come from in Nigeria, we care for good football, and good football don't understand Boko Haran or ACF, Ohaneze or Massob, Oduduwa or OPC, Niger delta or IYC, etc. What we understand is good football and banging of goals! Who blamed you for the goal scored by the Kenyan 'witch'? Stop making mistakes that ordinarily you could avoid, and every one will be happy. Or are you a militant now?

  12. Enyeama has no point . Stop blaming tribalism for your foul play. There is no Nigerian that will critize u when u are doing the right thing. Try and minimize ur mistakes

  13. Criticism is good for you,not to harm you but to make you better..always look at the strength of the criticism to pave ways for your improvement

  14. Perhaps Enyeama wanted us all to know that he isn't Igbo! But who gives a damn! When you exhibited brilliant talent we showered you with praises. So when you mess up, we should shower abuses on you. In Nigerian football no one cares about where you come from, we just care about your skills! So, shut up Enyeama, do the job or ship out! Carry your little tribal mind else where jo!

  15. My dear Vincent, I feel for u but be focus on Jesus. The kind of comments I hear pple make, not only about u, but including others like Osaze Odemwinge surely has tribal undertone. Am happy to hear pple say tribalism is a thing of d past and that means there is hope for my country. Be assured of my prayers for people like u and Osaze Odemwingwe. God bless Nigeria my country and God bless all 'endangered species' all over the world.

  20. Enyeama, you must be very stupid for saying that. Have you forgotten that so many Nigerian players have been criticized? The criticism does it have to do with racial background? The answer remains no. Alloy Agu, where is he from? Gar'ba Lawal nko, Our loved and adored Rashidi Yekini, faced harsh criticism when he started going down. My friend, remain focused because you still have a heavy task ahead, that is to qualify us for the World Cup. You remain our No 1 for now whether anyone, including you like it or not.
