The peace of Odi town in the Kolokuma-Opokuma council area was violated, Tuesday night, as unknown gunmen kidnapped the mother of Bayelsa Commissioner for Local Government and Rural Development, James Dugo.
It was gathered that the commissioner’s mother, Madam Comfort Dugo, was whisked away from her family residence by a three-man armed gang who stormed the town in a speed boat.
This is the second reported case of kidnapping in the predominantly riverine state after Governor Seriake Dickson signed into law death penalty for kidnappers in the state.
Dugo was chairman of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party in the state before his appointment as a commissioner by Governor Dickson in 2012.
Though no group has claimed responsibility for her abduction, it was learnt that the 68-year-old woman may have been kidnapped to fleece her son.
Dugo, who confirmed the kidnap of his mother to newsmen in Yenagoa, yesterday, said they were yet to establish contact with the kidnappers. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday
