National Youth Service Corps in Ogun State has stopped a female corps member, Miss Tolutope Ekundayo, from participating in the ongoing orientation programme for allegedly refusing to wear trousers at the camp.
Ekundayo, who spoke with reporters after a press conference organised by the General Overseer, Faith Revival Apostolic Church, Apostle Paul Adenuga in Lagos, said she was thrown out of the camp at about 11pm on Friday.
The corps member, a graduate of the Lagos State University, Ojo, alleged that NYSC officials asked her to leave the camp after she refused to wear trousers, one of the corps members’ attire.
But the NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs. T.I Anosike, said Ekundayo voluntarily withdrew from the service “based on her faith.’’
According to Ekundayo, females wearing trousers contravened her Christian belief.
Tolulope said, “I faced a panel and I was directed to submit all the kits that were given to me on the camp, which I did. There was also an order that I should go to the account unit and refund the N2, 500 transport and bicycle allowances paid to me when I arrived at the camp and I did so. All these happened on the same Friday that they ordered me to leave the camp.
“I want to serve my fatherland and if NYSC will allow me to wear skirts, I am ready to return to the Orientation Camp. My khaki and white skirts were made in such a way that they did not give me any problem. I was in Platoon Four and I participated actively in all the exercises from Tuesday to the Friday that I was thrown out of the camp.”
Adenuga, the President, Apostle Paul Gospel Outreach, had earlier wondered why the NYSC should take such an action when other security agencies, including the Nigerians Police allowed female to use skirts instead of trousers, that he said were only for men.
Anosike also denied that the NYSC sent her out at 11pm, saying Apostle A.B. Otaru of Antioch Church, Sagamu came to pick her at 10.27pm on behalf of Adenuga.

BLOODY HYPOCRITES!..
ReplyDeleteThis is a trivial issue that shouldn't have led to the sacking of this young lady from serving her father's land. There are thousands of unethical behaviours right there in the camp that the authority would pretend not to see. May God help our country. Go home dear young lady and I pray the good lord will pave way for you among millions.
ReplyDeleteadebayo, the law has been stipulated and if she is not satisfied with the law then she should go home, does she has two heads. This has been the law ever since and will the law be changed because of her. Is she the first christain to serve. She knew the law before going to serve, so what is she doing there if she cant obey. Pls lets call a spade a spade.
DeletePeople should learn to obey the laws of the land. Even Christ Himself obeyed the jewish laws. If she can't obey the NYSC laws then she should stay in her father's or pastor's house. Nonsense!
DeleteAbsolute nonsense! Wasn't she aware of the rules and regulations of the scheme before now? She had an option. Which was to exempt herself from the scheme! Nobody is above the law! I wonder how she intend using skirts to perform camp activities without keeping the eyes of her male colleagues and those of the soldiers rolling!
ReplyDeletena on top of the girl head them go stop trouser bcs she be president daughter.....you never ready to serve your fathers land......go sleep with your baba for house

ReplyDeleteEvery corp member by law is mandated by law to adorn the khaki uniform of shirt and trouser. Why did the lady refuse to wear the uniform? If it is her christian belief not to wear trouser, she wouldn't have come to the camp.It is NYSC traditional dress code and clearly distinguishes from other people. I served in the northern part of Nigeria where religion is taken as a culture ,yet the female corper still wear trouser. However, she should be left to her faith but she must also know that the NYSC certificate is important to her.

ReplyDeleteAbsolute non-sense! She shouldn't have been at the camp at all! Enough of all these 'improvising' during NYSC. I do not wear trousers or jewelries, but authorities must be respected. The lady even said 'if they will allow her to wear skirt'! This is unacceptable! If you that religious, please serve in your father's compound!

ReplyDeleteShe was aware of the laws and ethics guiding NYSC before going to going into it. Even in the northern states or anywhere in the country i ve never seen NYSC khaki in skirt o. Make dis girl go home and when she is ready to service let her come back..give what unto ceasar to ceasar. Thats the law
ReplyDeleteif you CHOOSE the game in life, you INHERIT the rules. You cant write or rewrite the rules.
ReplyDeleteMy young lady, The Bible said that we should obey the people in authority 1Peter 2vs13. You may be refering to Deut 22vs5 where we are not expected to wear the opposite sex dress .Types of dressing is fashion, and the Bible existed before people started wearing Trouser at least in Africa. Our first parent Adam and Eve dressed to cover their nakedness. If you leave in Europe where the weather will force you to wear trouser what will you do. God Jurges are motive and not necessarilly our action. James 4vs3.Prov 16vs 2 and 1sam 2vs3. Christianity is all about Love,Humunity and Obidient.
ReplyDeleteit is not good to send corp member out of the camp in the midnight for not wearing trouser, afterall is against christian believe, as it was written in the book of Deuteronomy 22 verse 5
ReplyDeleteplease listen friends, she is right! She did as the Bible orders her to do! May GOD grant her the more strength and grace to keep her good works to the end

ReplyDeleteAre u sure this lady really passed through university? was she not aware of the dress code before she applied ? i guess her legs and lap are smooth enough for camp members to notice.anyway, what an advert.

ReplyDeleteI just want to really comment on this blog cos i feel the need to express my frustrations ive went to last year but it finally turned into a testimony, I graduated from Uniport last 2 years and when the time came for me to go for service i was posted to the north, in frustration i decided not to go,and i tried to work my posting to the south cos of the insecurity and bombings in the north at that time but everything i tried didnt work, so i didnt go for service for that year, but this year i was that i must find a way to post myself to my desired LGA, So i contacted this individual Mr ayodele and he assured me and worked it for me and to my greatest suprise my name came out in one of the LGA in enugu, in fact i am so grateful for him cos now i nam currently in camp right now cos i followed Batch A .If you need assistance in regards to this matter pls feel free and call him on 09031791184.
