DELTA State Police Command, weekend, said it had since declared war on kidnappers and armed robbers in the state, appealing for public support to succeed in the task.
Performing the foundation laying ceremony of a new police station at Igbodo in Ika North-East Local Government Area, embarked upon by the community through self help, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ikechukwu Aduba, said: “Every information given to the Police for the arrest of any kidnapper in the state attracts N5,000 to the informant.”
Aduba said some persons had received the award, adding that Delta State Government recently released N2.5 milion to complement the efforts of the command in information gathering, describing Delta as a flash point.
Maintaining that the police have a duty to protect lives and property of the citizenry, he explained that community vigilante groups were being strengthened for greater efficiency. He said that those alleged to be collaborating with kidnappers had been sacked.
He described the ground breaking ceremony for a new police station in Igbodo as a step in the right direction and commended the people for the self help project and appealed for compromise between the traditional ruler and his subjects over the marriage issue that was threatening peace in the community.
