Soldiers Shoot Four University Students Dead In Nassarawa

Four students of Nassarawa State University were on Monday shot by security operatives during a protest over water scarcity in the institution.

The victims were among the hundreds of students who protested against the scarcity of electricity and water in the school. During the protest, some soldiers invaded the school and started firing shots which left four students dead, a witness said.

Nassarawa State Police Command spokesperson, Michael Ada, confirmed the killing of the students but denied that they were shot by police officers.

He said the commissioner of police in the state was already at the scene.

The students had embarked on the action, which was in its third day, to protest water scarcity.
Police sources in the State said that the soldiers killed the four students in a "fracas," and the university authorities announced the closure soon after the tragedy.

The Nigerian Army is known for using brutal tactics to suppress peaceful protesters, a fact that is well-known to university administrators nationwide. By inviting them, they seemed to have given tacit approval to the use of such force to confront unarmed students engaged in a peaceful protest.

  5. What did the students go wrong ? The soldiers should have uses tear-gas instead of gun they should be dismissed from service ASAP. Boka HAram has been a nuisance in this country. The soldiers can't tame them it is the poor innocent students they want to tame RUBBISH

  6. it is very unfortunate to see our army officials killing instead of protecting. the officers were suppose to shoot in the air and use the opportunity to arrest as many students as they please instead of killing the youth. i blame the vice chancellor for not providing what the student need on campos.
