Contrary to a recent media speculation
that the ailing Taraba State Governor, Alhaji Danbaba Suntai had fully
recovered and had been discharged from the hospital in Germany, the
state Acting Governor, Alhaji Garba Umar has denied the report, saying
that Suntai's state of health has deteriorated.
According to him, the governor, who has been in a German hospital since November receiving treatment due to injuries he sustained when a small aircraft, Cessna 208 he was piloting crash-landed about 30 miles to the Yola airport in Adamawa State, can neither talk nor see.
In the last few days, Mr. Suntai's propagandists have flooded Nigerian dailies with photos of the governor who is hospitalized in Hanover, Germany.
The photos depict the governor sitting on a special support chair and showing no emotion. His wife and friend, who are also in the picture, are seen smiling in the direction of a baby delivered by Mrs. Suntai.
In fact, some top government officials loyal to the governor had after a recent visit to him in the German hospital claimed that Suntai has been discharged from the hospital and would resume duty in no distant time.
Umar, who just retuned from Germany, dismissed the claim, affirming that Suntai was still receiving treatment in the shores of Germany.
He said: "I went to Germany to see my boss; the first day when I went it was his time to take tea because there in Germany the weather was very cold, then I went back to my hotel room. The next day I went to the hospital when my boss saw me he then smiled and waved at me he did not speak with me and there was no message from him to the people of Taraba."
The Acting Governor however said he doesn’t know the origin of the photographs that flooded the media recently.
"I have concluded arrangements for my commissioner for information Emmanuel Bello to travel to Germany to see the governor and it is expected that when he is there all what the people are calling for a tele-conference with the governor would be done by the commissioner I believe he is going to speaks with all of you here with the permission of the doctors," he said.

You said when he saw you he smiled and waved to you yet you claim he cannot see. Explain
ReplyDeleteThis story is conflicting abeg.thought the acting Governor said that the Governor can neither see or talk, then Y is he saying that the governor smiled and even waved at him?does it make sense?
ReplyDeleteWhat am seeing here is a picture of another opurtunist trying to pave the way for himself. Acting Governor, you could have at least faked compliance with the propaganda about the health of the governor. We all know he is in a bad shape.
ReplyDeleteThe conflict emanated from the media and not the Ag. Gov. The statement of the Gov is very clear.
ReplyDeleteWhat exactly is the massage the Acting Governor is trying to send? How could he say Governor Suntai is unable to see, yet he is not blind and is not being aided as one with any visual impairment, but was able to see him and waive to him when he visited. Again, he is planning to send the Commissioner for Information over to Germany to organize a tele-conference, yet he claims the Governor is unable to speak. I think there is more to these conflicting comments than meets the eye. A hidden agenda if you ask me. I only hope blind ambition would not push the 'spare tyre' into inordinately displacing the 'main tyre' in a manner that could throw the ethnically charged state into an avoidable chaos!
ReplyDeleteTHIS IS WHY DEPUTY GOVERNORS SHOULD BE GIVEN CLEARLY DEFINED ROLES IN THE CONSTITUTION OG NIGERIA. GOD SAVE HIS PEOPLE, AMEN.
ReplyDeleteMuch as I do not hold fort for the deputy governor, I believe he was misquoted. Someone is mischievously mixing up things here. The clear message I got from the entire mumbo jumbo is that Governor Suntai is still recuperating in Germany. May God speed up his recovery.
