Today, this address to Nigerians appeared on Goodluck Jonathan's Facebook page. The piece focuses on economy and investment, also on youths' employment, railways and pipelines' rehabilitation and opening of the new universities.
Dear friends on facebook,
The determination of this administration to create wealth in Nigeria and for Nigerians has led us to focus our investment drive towards attracting Foreign Direct Investments in manufacturing and the service sector to ensure that jobs are created. And this drive is not an exercise in futility as Nigeria is becoming the preferred destination for FDI. Just last week, General Electric announced a decision to invest $1 billion in setting up a manufacturing plant to support power generation and oil production. Their plant, to be situated in Calabar, will provide jobs for thousands with multiplier effect for tens of thousands more and will make Nigeria a hub for power equipment in the region. The end result of this investment is that Nigeria’s power generating infrastructure will be expanded meaning more power for Nigerians which translates to even more jobs.
While we continue to encourage the Private Sector to help grow our economy and create jobs for our youths, we will do all within our powers to also keep our youths engaged. In this regard I am happy to report that the 600 bed Federal Teaching Hospital in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State which this administration began working on in February 2011 has reached 95% completion and when commissioned later this year it will provide jobs for 3000 people. Similar projects are ongoing in other geo-political zones and I will keep you updated.
Similarly, ongoing massive investments in the rehabilitation of our railways are being carried out with direct labour, thereby providing jobs to thousands of our youths especially around the Ilorin-Minna-Kaduna-Kano corridor of our rail network. In addition to the regular Lagos to Kano service, the Nigerian Railway Corporation has introduced new routes including the Offa-Kano intercity service. These initiatives are generating employment and providing an inexpensive means of travel as well as an alternative means of hauling heavy goods and petroleum products to the hinterland.
Rehabilitation works are also ongoing in the nation’s pipelines to ensure a resumption of the supply of petroleum products by pipelines all over the nation thus reducing the pressure on our roads and railways and freeing up space for hauling other products. Jobs are being created as this is ongoing and moribund services are being resumed. Just last month, the Benin Depot of the Pipeline Product Marketing Company (PPMC) was reopened after a successful completion of rehabilitation works. Products can now be transferred by pipelines to this facility.
And it is not just in the service sectors that we are seeing construction and rehabilitation. During the maiden meeting of the Executive Council of the Federation meeting, the Federal Government approved the establishment of three new universities in Yobe, Kebbi and Zamfara states. Apart from the jobs that the construction works will generate in those states, value is being added to the local economy as more citizens will have access to tertiary education with its attendant effect in wealth generation and improved health.

ReplyDeleteNo be today we see endless promises. No wahala. Ur own time go soon pass. Action and not words is wht we need now. Talk less and do more, GEJ.
ReplyDeleteSir, you are doing well. But i am seeing the hand and words of that pathorlogical lier of your Imformation minister, labaran in this write up. After disgracing himself by awarding pass mark to Theo Orji of Abia State, on Aba roads, my support for your administration suffered a sumersault!
ReplyDeleteCarry go your excellency, the Lord is your strength, he will give you the enablement to accomplished your campaign promises, its not by might or by power, but by his grace.
ReplyDeleteCritically looking at the state of Nigeria, Nigeria is about collapsing and needs urgent resuscitation. Have a critical look at all the Nigeria sectors, ministries and the ministers, commissions and the commissioners, sincerely non is working well. In the civil service, The retired civil servants are not been paid their pension, gratuity and other entitlements, as was agreed in the civil service, and the deductions were made while they were in civil service, yet nobody is talking. Of course who will speak for us except God. The same civil servants struggled to train their children in the university, now no Job for the (Graduate) children,no capital for business and business is not moving well, even when u managed to get small capital for small scale business. Trying to get loan from bank with an interest of 22 to 25% is outrageous, if the bank will give u, unless u have salary account with the bank, when there is no Job? or u bring a third party who can afford the amount u're requesting for in case of abscondment, can't he/she help out wit d capital if u have such a person? or u have collateral, can't u sell such collateral for a new capital and replace it with ur profits when business starts moving well? But the same bank will take ur money on fixed deposit on only 10% interest, whyyyyy? Come to Education. Most of our leaders now were privileged to study because some churches, communities and social bodies contributed, and they all passed through government primary, secondary and tertiary schools, now what is happening to Nigerian education? Government school cannot be compared wit private school, government must be better in all ramifications. Why can't our leaders do something in this sector. In other counties, a professor in education can teach in nursery and primary school and still collect the same amount wit his colleagues in the university, state government is paying different package with federal government, salary of a cleaner with (o level certificate) in governors office can pay 2 principals of secondary schools with a degree. Still there is no money. Pls our grassroot education needs urgent attention, its been handled by non professionals and non disciplinarians. The teachers are not happy, their brains don't function well because they are not well paid, the pupils don't even assimilate what is been taught because their brain lacks basic nutrients, their parents are either unemployed or not well paid or retired without entitlements. The health sector is bad, agriculture no motivations, there are vacancies in all sectors yet no employment.our bad road is too busy because no other cheaper means of transportation, Owerri to Abuja now is around #4000 by road, but is #20000 by air, how many people can afford such amount for air transportation in Nigeria. There are security challenges all over the country because there is no Job, hope and future for the youths. The youths are hungry and can commit murder because of #1000. May God help us. God we call your divine attention to come rescue Nigeria, touch our leaders
ReplyDeleteThis is very encouraging Mr President.pls take all insukts with courage. This page should continue to exust.May God give you wisdom and strength to ruleh
ReplyDeleteLook on the bright sides murmurers and complainers.the government won't put food into your mouth, they will only do what they can do.even Americans who we imitate in only fashion and their naked dressing have their own problems.a pastor would say"if we use the time we use in complaining about our leaders to Pray for them,we will go far in no time".Nigerians should learn gratitude!!God help you jor Mr President!!!!
ReplyDeleteMr. president i am still especting more transformatios in our economy. i want to see a situations where ordinary Nigerians will be happy & have a sense of belonging. power is not spread across we are all stake holders in nigerian dreams i think we should all be part of your administration. ReplyDeleteI think it's more about how they can carry go with looting rather creating wealth! Let Jonathan find ways of utilizing the wealth God has already bestowed on this country before he hoodwinks us on his so-called wealth creation epistles.
