The communal conflict between Ngwo people of Ebonyi State and the Agilas in Ado local government area of Benue state, yesterday, left a 15-year-old JSS student of Government Secondary School, GSS Agila, Edwin Aboh, battling for his life after he was shot in the head by unknown assailants.
Saturday Vanguard gathered from sources that Aboh was shot on his way to school by his attackers who were suspected to be mercenaries from Ngwo.
Our source confirmed that the student who was badly wounded and said to be in critical condition is presently receiving treatment at the Igumale General Hospital, headquarters of Ado local government council.
"All I can tell you at the moment is that he is at the intensive care unit of the Igumale General hospital and he is in a critical condition", our source said.
Reacting to the development, the Police Area Commander in charge of Otukpo, Mr Samuel Dra-Koji who spoke with newsmen at Otukpo on the incident urged the residents of Ado local government to form vigilante groups which he said would assist them handle security matters more effectively.
Mr Dra-Koji who regretted the incident noted that the formation of vigilante groups would enable the people identify strange faces in their community and thereby forestall such attacks.
He vowed that the Police Area Command office in Otukpo would investigate the matter to ensure that the culprit was apprehended.
Saturday Vanguard recalls that the people of Agila and their neigbouring Ngwo community in Ebonyi state have in the past years been locked in a bloody battle over a disputed parcel of land which has claimed several lives with property worth millions of Naira also destroyed.
