16 states get new police commissioners



The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, has ordered the immediate redeployment of 33 senior police officers in various commands and formations of the force across the country.
 
According to the police authorities, the deployment, which affects 16 state police commands, is part of ongoing efforts to reposition the force for greater efficiency.
 
A statement by the Deputy Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, in Abuja on Wednesday, said the redeployment affected newly promoted officers and other senior personnel. It added that it was meant to inject fresh ideas into the system.
 
Some of the officers affected are Commissioner of Police, Sabo Ringim, who was transferred to Kebbi State; Musa Daura, Kano; Moses Saba-Ndagi, Ebonyi; Johnson Ogunsakin, Kwara; Titus Ibititituwa, Enugu; and Hilary Opara, Kogi State.
 
Others are Jubril Adeniji, Taraba State; Mohammed Indabawa, Oyo; Mohammed Katsina, Imo; Usman Abubakar, Abia; Olufemi Ogunbayode, Federral Capital Territory; Dorothy Gimba, Osun; Foluso Adebanjo, Edo; K. Shodipo, Cross River; Patrick Deydokumor, Ondo; and Joseph Mbu, who was moved to Rivers from Oyo State.
Also affected by the redeployment exercise are James Caulcrick, who was moved to the Police College, Enugu; Steven Audu, Admin. ‘F’ department Force Headquarters; Wilfred Obute, Commandant, Police College, Kaduna; Felix Uyanna, Commandant, Police College, Oji River,Enugu; A. Abakasanga, Info-tech/Admin.; and Ambrose Aisabor, Admin ‘A’ Department Force Headquarters among others.
Abubakar charged the officers to adopt proactive and aggressive crime-fighting strategies, stressing the need to continually initiate policies and programmes that would strengthen policing and best practices in law enforcement.
He advised them to imbibe the values of transparency, accountability, respect for fundamental human rights and strong professional ethics in accordance with the provisions of the Code of Conduct for the force.
“The IG equally enjoined the officers to rededicate themselves to the service of humanity and to ensure that no stone is left unturned in efforts at tackling violent crimes, as well as corruption in all ramifications,” the statement added.
