hree persons have been reportedly killed and 31 injured in auto crashes in Ogun and Oyo states.
According to one of our
correspondents, a middle-aged woman died and 14 injured after an
18-seater bus with number plate Lagos XT 788 FKJ suffered a tyre burst,
causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle at Awowo Village,
along the Abeokuta-Lagos Expressway, Ogun state, on Monday.
Earlier on Sunday night,
one person was killed and 13 injured following an accident at Ogunmakin
village along the Ibadan-Lagos Expressway.
The accident was said to have occurred when the driver of a white Mazda bus marked Lagos XW 959 LSR also lost control.
One person killed and
five injured after a vehicle carrying foodstuff rammed into a concrete
slab at Mokola area of Ibadan, Oyo State, on Monday.
The vehicle marked LA
780 AAA was said to be descending the slope at Mokola area along
Cultural Centre when it had brake failure.
The Itori Unit Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Mr Fatai Bakare, confirmed the accident at Awowo village.
He said the 14 persons injured had been receiving treatment at Ifo General Hospital.
The Ogere Unit Commander
of the FRSC, Godwin Samgbasa, said 16 people including a child, were
involved in the accident in the Ogunmakin crash.
Samgbasa said while the
corpse of the dead person had been deposited at the morgue of the
Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu the injured
persons had been receiving medical attention at Fakoya Hospital in the
town.
Bakare warned motorists against buying used tyres instead of new ones to avoid such occurrences and road mishaps.
He said, “It is true
that they are cheap but your live is not cheap and you should not die
trying to cut cost, it is important to buy new tyres and recommended
parts.
“Most used tyres are already expired
before they get to the country and that is what our commercial drivers
use. It is nothing but suicide mission to use Tokunbo tyres.
