The National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, yesterday, called on the Chief of Army Staff, General Abdulrahman Dambaza  and Commissioner of Police,  Federal Capital Territory, FTC, Command to investigate the allegation that some men in army uniform abducted and raped some women in Abuja under the guise that they were prostitutes.

Executive Director of NHRC, Prof. Bem Angwe, in a statement, noted that the commission monitored the report of the incident as aired by Federal Radio Corporation on January 16, 2013.

It was reported that on December 20, 21 and 22, 2012,  some women were allegedly abducted by men in army uniforms in an unidentified black Hilux van in Wuse 2, Abuja, under the guise that they were prostitutes and taken to an unknown destination, where they were allegedly beaten and raped.

  1. I heard this story last week and I felt so bitter about it . Even if these ladies are prostitutes they should be persecuted accordingly why rape, beat and rob them ? The authority should look into this matter

  2. in a country like Nigeria, and in its capital city.men in uniform patrolling the streets of Abuja and arresting people, raping them, and also carrying them to an unknown destination. the question is, where is our security operatives? are they not the ones perpertrating the act?dont we have laws to persecute these men in uniform? or is it a case of UNKNOWN SOLDIER?

  4. If the fear of being raped by Soldiers will keep Prostitutes off the Streets, then the end is justifying the means! Its easy to blame the Soldiers whose training/duty is/should not be to be chassing Prostitutes about. It all points to the systemic break-down of values in our society. Prostitution is Evil! Raping them is no less!
