Pastor Adeboye and the miraculous petrol

FRIDAY, December 13 saw traffic around parts of Ikoyi, the race course and all the main bridges linking Lagos Island and the mainland completely closed for about two hours, because our President Jonathan was on his way to attend the Holy Ghost Congress organized by the Redeemed Christian Church of God headed by Pastor Enoch Adeboye at the Redemption Camp.

This type of disruption of traffic is reminiscent of the period when Lagos was still the federal capital and residence of Presidents and Head of states, before the movement to Abuja, during civilian regimes.
Notorious traffic at the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, when the Redeemed Christian Church of God is holding their camp meeting is well known and deserves no comments.

The Redeemed Christian Church of God is one of the biggest Pentecostal Churches in the country with membership running into thousands, if not millions. It is therefore expedient for the president to fall into the temptation of choosing the venue both to worship and doing political business, by killing two birds with one stone. After all, this is not new. Pastor Adeboye welcomed President Obasanjo with the same fun-fare and prayer sessions.

Both Pastor Adeboye and President Jonathan have a lot to gain. While Pastor Adeboye may be guaranteed adequate funds through offerings for the church, the president on the other hand will have political membership support especially as it is rumored that the president is in the running come 2015. This political manoeuvering does not deserve a comment.

People witnessed on television the president kneeling and Pastor Adeboye praying for his success in the business of governances after which the President delivered his prepared political speech, promising to solve the nation's problems.
Pastor Adeboye in his usual style gave a motivational sermon bordering on a miraculous story about a journey he was involved in. The story I am told had been narrated a number of times previously.

Pastor Adeboye was coming from Onitsha during the petrol crises when he realized he needed to buy petrol, but there was no petrol in Onitsha. He decided he would try Asaba, but found out also, there was no petrol in Asaba. Continuing his journey, he hoped to buy petrol on reaching Benin, but to his amazement also found out there was no petrol station open for business in Benin, Pastor Adeboye undaunted finally thought he would find petrol to buy at Ore.

By the time he reached Ore, the next stop, his petrol warning light came on, indicating that he was then on reserve supply. At this point Pastor Adeboye said God told him not to look at the petrol gauge, but to continue his journey. Following God's instruction, Pastor Adeboye continued his journey from Ore, without looking at the fuel gauge, until he got to his residence in Surulere in Lagos.
This is a very moving account of the supernatural, and the very intervention of God himself in making what seems impossible, possible.
In other words, this is a miracle, a wonderful and an amazing thing, an event in the natural world but out of its established order, possible only by the intervention of divine power.

Pastor Adeboye's narrative of his ability to drive a car with only reserve petrol left from Ore to his residence in Surulere – falls very neatly under this miraculous experience. In other words, God supplied him miraculous quantity of petrol to achieve this.
However let us subject this claim to analysis and scrutiny.

God created a horse or camel for motion and God can make a horse or camel run independently for 1,000 miles without stopping, or tiring just by His word, as all things are possible with God. One could say same for a car as well. But there is a difference.
A car is designed by man and designed for propulsion to run on an energy source such as petrol or gas by a system of carburetors or fuel injection. It is designed by man, after taking into consideration all external God or Natural Laws governing the earth gravity, velocity or motion, etc.

Pastor Adeboye said God told him not to look at the petrol gauge when the gauge warning light came on, before leaving Ore, driving to Surulere in Lagos. He decided not to tell us the full story: he should disclose the following facts that will convince everyone there was a miracle.

·What was the make and model of the car he was driving?

·What distance did he cover between Ore and his residence in Surulere, Lagos?

·What is the capacity of his car's reserve tank by the time the warning light comes on – how many liters are in the tank?

·How many kilometers per liter does Pastor Adeboye car do?

Apart from the distance covered, all these questions or information could be supplied by the car manufacturers if the type of car is known.
It is well known also that there are cars that have two reserve tanks and these tanks have varying capacities. There are other factors that occur in the running of a car that could alter its function. The fuel gauge warning indicator may be faulty or can come on prematurely giving the impression that a driver is on reserve petrol.

Pastor Adeboye is alleged to own a private jet designed by man as described previously to operate a system of propulsion and flight by the use of aviation fuel. It could be assumed or inferred that while flying the private jet, there was insufficient aviation fuel, and the guage ignored, because with God all things are possible; Pastor Adeboye could not avoid a crash.

Unlike a car, the measuring instruments of an aircraft are better calibrated and more precise. From the above information to determine whether a miracle occurred between Ore and Pastor Adeboye's house in Surulere, a decerning mind will conclude. There was no miracle, as the car in question must, have just conformed with the specification, it was designed to do.

I understand Pastor Adeboye was a mathematics professor before he was called to do God's work. He must have had some knowledge in scientific data, and this could have influenced his narrative of miraculous petrol, a story he had repeated a few times. But our society is backward and most Pentecostal Church preachers take advantage of this ignorance.

It was amazing to me that a few people I would consider knowledgeable and enlightened could not see the flaws in the miraculous content of Pastor Adeboye's story. This exposes our knowledge of what a miracle really is. This writer is a very strong believer in miracles, and miracles happen all the time but Pastor Adeboye's claim could not stand the scrutiny of believers in the Western World. It would be classified as a spurious claim.

  1. Mike you are of Nigerian that can reason very well.

Small time you will see ignorant or Adeboye supporter descend on you even to the extend that they will condemn your write up.

Please dont mind them just keep on good work .

Many time , i have said a lot about Logic in this platform .

I posted some analysis about Pastor Temitope Josua Prediction , Pastor Sulaiman including Adeboye Prophesy about booming agriculture or food supplus in year to come in this country (BIG LIE FROM MAN OF GOD ).

How can we have boomimg agriculture without putting all enabling factors at the right place .It is all because he has first hand information that government want to invest in agriculture . (Sorry for digression ).

We should not allow a man like us to continue bamboos us without reasoning on our own .

Until we can think and reason on our own , this nation can not progress .

Thanks once again Mike for being a Man of logic and well developed brain .

I leave the remaining one to those of you that can infer very well .

    GOD BLESS

  2. Most of the time when i ear miracle from Nigerian man of God .

I always ask myself , how can we proof this type of miracle .

Can you imagine Pastor saying he has just cured somebody suffering from HIV among congregation and nobody we ask question about possibility .

    (1) Is it established and documented by Competent Medical Practitioner or hospital that the man is HIV positive.

(2)Any result after miracle that shows that the man is now HIV negative .

What do you think about man of god saying god has just told him that somebody will travel to America tonight .

    We need to ask ourselves
    (1) Does he has Nigeria Passport ?
    (2) Has he or she applied for America Visa ?
    (3) Any Confirmation that visa is approved ?
    (4) What about ticket ?

If it is about somebody will get car or okada tonight . It is possible because there is arrangement ahead before the prophesy or miracle .

I WILL ADVICE NIGERIAN NOT TO BE DECEIVE BY MAN LIKE YOU.

GOD LOVES ALL OF US NOT ONLY THE MAN ON PODIUM.

  13. Just as the writer has his reasons or do I say as he has logicalised the testimony of Pst. Adeboye and come to a conclusion I think every other person has the right to practice, believe what so ever one chooses as it is a choice, but I dont appreciate the conclusion that for believing the man of God makes such a person a fool or something, my opinion is if my faith works for me so be it, thats solely my business,
So you have a problem with the testimony now that is what makes it a miracle as it defies the normal happenstance here is what though I suggest you start attending the services to hear more unbelievable? testimonies/miracles
On the other hand am wondering if the problem is with the traffic, the membership of the church, the President attending and kneeling down to be prayed for or is it his speech how be it God bless you

Mike diagbare, yoy are making a fool of your self by trying to make a mockery of the man's testimony to what God did for him in line with doing this you try to figure out a miracle in your own common sense let me now shock u with what God can do, something similar happened to me in New York on long island after hurricane sandy I prayed after i couldn't find gas and was left with one gallon of gas in my car on long island expressway and it took me 45miles home and only stoped me right in front of my house and am not a pastor or an adeboye supporter but I have been a recipient of God's mercies and miracles.

This write up is uncalled for. Keep your logic to yourself and leave us who are gullible for God. AJ

  30. Mr Mike, good analysis you had there. You have demostrated your good knowledge of the workings of chemistry and physics and mathematics. But no natural or applied sciences can explain miracle.
One question I will like to ask you is:DO YOU BELIEVE THAT JESUS CAME FROM GOD;DO YOU BELIEVE IN THE VIRGIN BIRTH; DO YOU BELIEVE HE DIED AND ROSE AGAIN AND IS ALIVE FOREVER MORE? If you believe these then Pastor Adeboye's claim is the least of what the Almigthy God can do. God gives you understanding in Jesus' name.

  31. Well done Mike. Infact, most Nigerianwho flock to this Pastors are so blind. Even a smart child can easily see hole in this miracle claim.Nigerian has for so long being deceived and duped by all manner of men of God. How else can one just beleive this. Moreover, God is more interested in our Doing the right thing than in Miracles. Infact Mike You have raised all the vital issues in this claim. Also, Pastor Adeboye may indirectly be telling his followers to be taking unnecessary risk. Too bad for our society.

  35. from the reactions on this write up, i have drawn my own conclusions that majority of nigerians are gullible and thats why we take shit from govt, leaders, pastors and the rest. thats why we are docile and lack the sprit of revolution. thats why crooks are succesfull while sincere people are cruscified. the Bible said thou shall not judge, did it say thou shall not question? a real man of God is he that says the truth and enlighten people. the writer just did. i personaly have no problem with the pastors because they give the people what the want. there was a time a plane crashed into the sea somewhere in a Asia and there was a single survivor. a little girl who said that a hand lifted her. we all believe in miracles and we see them happen often but the writer is trying to verify the veracity of his claims. some responder advocated that his eyes be opened, did the writer tell you he is blind? if GEJ did not come for a political jamboree why will Adeboye allow Goodluck talk to the people from a pulpit. When has liars been givena place in the Church of God. a people gets the leaders they deserve.

  36. Mr. Mike you are an unbeliever. I have got the same miracle driving from PH to Warri.
I once also had wrist watch that several repairers have failed to make it work but after listening to a man of God how he prayed for a bad / burned music speaker and it worked. I got faith to now prayed for my bad wrist watch and it started working. The power of God is not limited to animate (living) things but He controls both the living and non-living things. He God gave power to men who made them. Mr. Mike, please believe the man of God and it shall be well with you.

"Mike", reveal your true name, identity, faith or motive. Any educated Christian knows that, miracle is the exact opposite of science. That is why it is called faith. My prayer is that God will deal with you according to what you deserve.Be courageous enough that you have a problem with Christianity in this country.

  42. Who is asking any of you to believe the story. Mike is looking for a story to write on, is he angry that President Jonathan attended the 2012 Holy Ghost Congress of RCCG? Did any member of RCCG complain that Pastor Adeboye bamboozled them with stories to induce them to give him their money? What problem does Mike has with Pastor Adeboye having a JET? Was is bought and donated using Nigerian Tax Payers' money (Federal Govt purse)? Why not find possible solution to Nigeria's political and economic problems rather than writing stories that won't pay you. Write AWARD WINNING STORIES MAN. Blackmailers don't win awards!!!

So "By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible."

My point => if the universe; its natural resources and natural laws are an act of God who is Spirit & invisible, Can't God make a car move without fuel?

His ways are not our way. our human knowledge is limited.
With God there are no impossibilities.

  55. Mike, your level of reasoning is synonymous to that of the scribes and pharisees as well as those who reason along with you in their hypocritical manner. Anyway, if it happened to Jesus whom they said cast out devil by Beelzebub why wouldn't it happen to genuine men of God today when more children of the devil are on the increase? Most of you just want to say something because of your greed for recognition.

  56. The point so many have failed to see in write ups like Mike's own is that,it's a call to Nigerians to open their eyes to the activities of these so called men of God. The issue should not be if there are miracles or if they are real or not but the motive in making them happen and to what use they put those miracles, sometimes when I listen to testimonies of miracles from people in churches,I see that even things with obvious explanation is given as testimony and called a miracle simply bcos, knowledge of what happened has eluded those involved. Most importantly, the way this issue of faith & beleif in miracles is being infused into Africans especially Nigerians can be seen as making us weak intellectually. We pray for miracles in everything and every situation, even in situations when the person just needs to something simple,he rushes to church to seek miracle. I don't think that's what God wants us to be doing. You see so many people especially frustrated youths spending more than 70% or more of their active time of the day attending church programmes, while their couterparts in the west spend almost all their time either on research or executing their research results. How can a Nation like this be progressive? Go to all these churches, you'll see people seeking prayer & deliverance for all sorts of meaningless things. People giving testimony for total nonsense in the name of miracle. Go to the western world where all these orthodox religion came from and you see the story is different. They're even doing things different from what they taught us. Imagine the Bishop of Canterbury endosing Gay marriages. Africans need to open their eyes wide. Painfully we discover that these so called miracles in most churches are powered by the various FETISH African practices that the missionaries came to eradicate. Our perspective to Orthodox Religion has contributed largely to the slow development of the African continent. It has affected seriously our ability to appeal to rational reasoning......Chris A
