Nigerian Governors promise better life in 2013

Nigerian Governors have promised to make life better for their citizens in 2013.

In their New Year messages, governors Olusegun Mimiko (Ondo), Jonah Jang (Plateau), Abiola Ajimobi (Oyo), Godswill Akpabio (Akwa Ibom), Ibikunle Amosun (Ogun), Adams Oshiomhole (Edo), Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers), Babatunde Fashola (Lagos) and Enugu State Acting Governor Sunday Onyebuchi commended the people for their support.

They promised to tackle insecurity, unemployment, poverty and corruption as well as provide infrastructure.

Mimiko said, “The New Year shall be a year of consolidation on the gains so far achieved by this administration.

“Unemployment, which is posing a national challenge, will be frontally tackled in our state and we shall remain steadfast and committed in serving you”.

Jang, in a statement by the Director of Press Affairs, Mr. James Mannock, was hopeful that 2013 would be better than 2012.

He said though 2012 was a year of mixed blessings for the country, there was the need for Nigerians to put the challenges behind them and embrace the future with hope.

Jang was optimistic that the country was on the path to greatness, restating the determination of his administration to develop the state.

Ajimobi said the beautification efforts of his administration would continue.
He called for the understanding of the people of the state, particularly those affected by ongoing removal of illegal structures.
Fashola emphasised the importance of security, urging Lagosians to be vigilant.
The governor, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Hakeem Bello, said kidnappers, armed robbers, suicide bombers and other criminals all belong and live within the communities and they should be exposed.
He said, “They are not ghosts but people like you and I and so must be known by some people. It is our duty, both as individuals and as communities, to expose such people. Their activities only benefit a few while the majority of us suffer.
“Every policy and programme we have introduced in the last six years have been tailored towards the welfare of the people. We have, through these policies and programmes, created a conducive and enabling environment for enterprise and investment to thrive thereby reducing to the minimum the desperate conditions that instigate crime and insecurity.”
Amosun commended civil servants, traditional rulers, civil rights groups, Labour, security agents, opposition groups and the media for the successes so far recorded by his administration.
Amaechi said with the support of the Four-Power Consortium, his administration would deliver on its promise to provide regular power supply.
He said, “We had promised to deliver on a 24-hour power supply by the end of 2012 but unfortunately we couldn’t meet this deadline, as we still need the Power Holding Company of Nigeria, PHCN to hook us up and grant us the requisite permission to distribute.”
Oshiomhole called on Edo people to look forward to a better 2013.
Akpabio urged Nigerians to draw closer to God as they start another journey of their sojourn on earth.
Onyebuchi urged Nigerians to eschew any acts capable of hindering the progress of the country.
