A man was sentenced to three years in jail for stealing a telephone handset worth N17, 000 even as pension thief who stole N2billion is freed
Less than 24 hours after an Abuja High Court sentenced Pension Thief John Yakubu Yusuf to two years in prison for admitting to stealing around N2 billion, an Ikare Magistrate Court in Ondo State has sentenced another man to three years in prison for stealing a telephone handset worth N17, 000.
The Abuja court had on Monday sentenced the former director of the Police Pension Board , John Yakubu Yusuf, to two-year imprisonment.
Mr. Yusuf pleaded guilty to two-count charges of embezzling about N2 billion of the total N33 billion stolen from police pensions. He was, however, given an option of fine of N250, 000 instead of going to jail.
Adepoju Jamiu, 23, living in Ondo was not so lucky. On Tuesday, the Ikare Magistrate Court sentenced him to three years imprisonment for stealing a China Blackberry phone worth N17, 000. Like pension thief Yusuf, Mr. Jamiu also pleaded guilty to the charge.
If the ratio of years of sentence was relative to the amount stolen and the same law was used to try both men, should Mr. Jamiu be jailed 3 years, Mr., Yusuf would have been sentenced to at least 110,000 years in jail.
Not only was Mr. Jamiu given a seemingly incomparable jail sentence, he was not given an option of fine by Chief Magistrate Sunday Adeniyan.
Mr. Jamiu’s crime, the police prosecutor, Aigbojie Amileomen, told the court that the stolen phone belonged to one Suleiman Asimiyi.
While briefing the court on the case, the prosecutor said the accused committed the offence in November 2012 at about 5.30 a.m. at Olukare Central Mosque, Inu Odi, Okela, Ikare.
When the case was read, the accused pleaded guilty as charged.
Mr. Adeniyan convicted Mr. Jamiu having found him guilty.
He said Mr. Jamiu’s action violated Section 383(1) and punished him under Section 390(9)of the Criminal Code Cap 37, volume one, laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
He therefore ordered that Mr. Jamiu should remain in prison for three years without an option of fine.

HAHHAHAHAH, DO WE HAVE JUDICIAL SYSTEM IN NIGERIA, PLS WHEN YOU WANT TO STEAL, STEAL SOMETHING REASONABLE.
ReplyDeleteIS NOT THE FIRST TIME, EVEN IBRU WALKED.
Judiciary and the law enforcement agents are the problem we have in this Nation called Nigeria, because they are aiding and abetting. The pension thief that had caused deaths and sorrows in many Homes was set freed for his wickedness, how do we imagine this type of situation?, very barbaric and babbitt.I know of a woman after retirement from Federal Ministry of Education her pension and benefits was embezzled by the wicked people in this ministry, today the woman is suffering from stroke as aftermath effect of the action of these thiefs. Why should Nigerian allowed the judger of the case to go score free, he supposed to have been mobbed by the people around the court after judging the case, very soon axe will begin to fall upon our judiciary and our law enforcement agents for their wickedness because they are the one multiplyng corruption in this Nation.SSO.
ReplyDeleteI come to believe that law profession harbours corruption in the way and manner it is practiced in Nigeria. Why? Sentences on corruption ought to be universally applied. A thief is a thief irrespective of his location and law should uphold same. Nigeria! Nigeria! a country ruled by two laws- one for the rich and another for the poor masses. God dey. Let us fear God, repent and be saved.
ReplyDeletePlease I want to suggest one thing here. Let there be a switch of judges for the two offenses(N28 BILLION and BLACKBERY PHONE) Your lordship Justice Talba should be assigned the retrial of BLACKBERRY PHONE thief while Justice Sunday Adeniyan should be assigned a retrial of N28 billion police pension fund thief...case closed.
ReplyDeleteIs this a country? For God sake, our so call leaders and those that poor claim to be their last hope (judiciary)keep betraying and enslaving the poor . Is it a sin to be poor? However, no one pray for such but not everyone will be rich. Firing squad by gun would have been the best and permanent solution to issue of corruption in Nigeria but would the senate house move such a motion, would GEJ that can not lead by example by faithfully declare his asset be in support to such because they are all stained in one a way or the other. Hungryboy stolen a china phonesentenced to 3yrs in jail. It shall not be well with you all wicked leaders and Judges and your generations here on earth and beyond!

ReplyDeleteMy happiness is that Nigerians have come of age. They are now more aware and wiser. They are now more courageous to speak the truth and stick to it. Nigerians appear to have better realized the extent of their human rights. Maybe one day, they will realize the importance of their one vote, how and where to cast it and how to defend the vote. When Nigerians mature to this level, then they would come to gnash their teeth on how long they have been cheated by their leaders.
