DANA AIR IS BACK: Resumes flight operation Jan. 4

Dana Air will resume flight operation on Jan. 4, an official of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mr James Shallangwa, said on Thursday.

Shallangwa, Head of Commercial at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Internatonal Airport, Abuja, made this known in an interview with reporters in Abuja.

He said that the Minister of Aviation, Princess Stella Oduah, had issued a resumption letter to the airline to recommence operation after its plane crashed in Lagos on June 3, 2012. The first flight would take off from Abuja, adding that there was nothing wrong in the airline re-emerging after an accident that claimed lives and property.

Mr Tony Usidamen, the Head, Corporate Communications, Dana, who confirmed the development, said the resumption came after necessary approval was received from the Federal Government. Mr Kayode Adeniran, the Dana Station Manager at the NAIA, also confirmed the development.

He said that the airline would resume its inaugural flight at 9:45a.m. on Jan. 4. It will be recalled that Dana aircraft crashed in Lagos on June 3, 2012, killing all 153 passengers and crew. The Federal Government through the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) revoked the company’s operation license pending proper investigations into the cause of the crash.

In September 2012, the Federal Government reinstated the Airline’s license and allowed it to resume without any flight operations. In December 2012, NCAA issued a new Air Operators Certificate to Dana Air after it completed the necessary recertification processes.
