As controversy continues to trail the alleged discovery of a drug for the cure of HIV/AIDS by the Dean of School of Basic Medical Sciences of the University of Benin, Prof. Isaiah Ibeh, the authorities of the institution, yesterday, in Benin, faulted the dean’s claims.
Prof. Ibeh had, in a recent interview, hinted of the discovery of an oral drug made from plants extraction in Nigeria for the possible cure of the pandemic HIV/AIDS.
He said: “The School would like to take credit for a break- through, but it cannot align with the breakthrough because the College was not consulted, the University was not consulted, and he did not carry anybody along.
“There are protocols and procedures. Going from stage to stage, we ought to give it clinical trials, by taking it to the Federal Ministry of Health to do clinical trials and many other things involved. We also needed to take it to National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, and many other things had to be done before you come out with your claims, in addition to taking it to World Health Organisation.”
He said all the university was doing was to protect Prof. Ibeh and the integrity of the institution.

Hey Prof Vincent Iyawe is only being jealous, Prof Isaiah Ibeh has achieved it, glory be to God.
ReplyDeleteDoes the fact that he did not carry the school along make his claims wrong? Does he need to consult d school to carry out a research? Is it the school that paid his school fees and did he use the school's funds to carry out his research? Why are we like this in this country? Why are we killing ourselves wt our hands? Who is jealous of this man's boldness and achievement? Too many questions begging for an answer. I expected the school to rally round him and give him support and thereafter take the glory rather than kill it. Mtchewwww

ReplyDeleteIt is a typical example of why HIV will never have a cure. More especially from Nigeria. Obviously, the prof. Guarded his work jealously knowing fully that once leaked, he will never take credit for it. He will die seeing others making billions out of what he toiled to develop. You must not sell internationally to make gain. Start it somewhere and people will come to know.
ReplyDeleteMy fear for the prof is however that in this world of today, nothing seems to work out without a little bit of politics. For example, a player hater may just decide to use NAFDAC to kill any dream prof might have had. Uhmmm... That will be really disastrous.
