The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Wednesday, described recent statement linked to former Federal Capital Territory Minister, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, on Jesus Christ, as not only reckless but also indicative of deep-seated moral bankcruptcy.
El-Rufai had tweeted on January 28, that “if Jesus criticises Jonathan’s government, Maku, Abati or Okupe will say that he slept with Mary Magdalene”.
Addressing newsmen on the issue, CAN warned El-Rufai that “if he persists in such matters and making such divisive commentaries, he must prepare himself for a very forceful and vigorous reaction from the Church and the Christian community in Nigeria”.
Speaking through its General Secretary, Rev. Musa Asake, CAN warned that the “maturity and dignified restraint of the Christian populace, in the face of inflammatory and provocative statements, should not be taken as licence for unbridled assault.
“We urge his religious leaders and political associates to advise him to be far more sobre and circumspect and put a padlock on his mouth before he lights the candle that sets our country on fire.
“On our part, we urge the Christian community and our Christian youths to continue to be restrained and always seek peace, love and harmony, in spite of the provocations that they are facing from the likes of Nasir El-Rufai and those he represents.
“We must not allow him to turn Nigeria into a cauldron of fire by his reckless, bigoted and twisted commentaries about our Lord or our faith and we must view him for exactly what he is, a failed, desperate, hate-filled and drowning politician, who is now stoking embers of religious division to create a political base for himself amongst his people.
“Nigeria has no place for a religious bigots who delight in insulting the Christian faith.
“We urged the Federal Government to call Nasir El-Rufai to order and not to overlook the possibility that his joke was not only contrived but was actually calculated to create an even greater wedge between Christians and Muslims with the attendant consequences.
“Had it not been for the maturity, fortitude, patience, decency, forgiving nature and deep sense of restraint that the majority of Christians have in our country, El-Rufai would not have been safe anywhere in Nigeria today after cracking such an expensive joke.” Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

is like his blood bank in the spirit realm is empty so he wants to cause blood shed to replenish......... God dey......... Christians are not known for violence, so please as usual ignore him as we have always been ignoring the likes of him.
ReplyDeleteCAN really disappointed me by replying him...Silence is the best answer for a fool!
ReplyDeleteHowever, since he had apologized, he should be forgiven. That is why we are followers of CHRIST - CHRISTIANS! KJoe
I trust my senseless muslim brothers, if it was to be mohammed dat ridiclued, Nigeria would hv been in a mess. Christianity is a religion of peace. Christians do not fight for their God, He will fight for himself.
ReplyDeleteGood comment. May God bless you.
DeleteNo man fights for My God! He is a mighty man in Battle. El-Rufia should better not get Him against him, bcos he wouldn't survive a second fighting Him.
ReplyDeleteEl-Rufai was trying to provoke the wrath of God with his senseless joke. He had shown that he is a perpetrator of peace of our dear nation, he must be very careful otherwise he wil regret coming to this world when God descend on him with His wrath. How dare you insult the only begotten son of God-Jesus.
ReplyDeleteWe are children of the Living God-The Almighty God who admonishes to pursue peace with all men and holiness9obedience)without which no man see God.Jesus Christ if He was on Earth and heard what El-rufai about Him,He will just walk away even when the pharisees n saduccess were calling Him names,He either ignore them(that is POWER)or speak in Parables to them which always perplexes them, lets emulate Jesus Christ that we preach so that people like El-rufai n co. will see Jesus Christ in us-we xians-the followers of Jesus Christ. It is well with Naija n Naija people in Jesus name, amen.
ReplyDeleteJesus Has Risen so All is Enemies Must Scatter
ReplyDeleteCAN shouldn't have responded! I am so disappointed in them!
ReplyDeleteNevertheless, we must let the sleeping dogs lie!
El- Rufai has earlier responded to Prof, Utomi's retort, saying that Jesus (Isa in Islam is a well respected Prophet begotten by immaculate conception through a Virgin). He apologized and made it clear he was misunderstood...
Christians, for the sake of maturity, wisdom demands we not over-flog the already dead horse... This is not an issue to be emphasized, over-analyzed or even misread!
I am a Christian, I have never met the man but I say " Let Him Be". That is what Jesus would do.
Instead of over-stressing the issue, FORGIVE the Man, no one is perfect! Christianity is all about Forgiveness!
We must not be the first to cast the stone, many of us Christians have done worse in our closets...
CAN has failed to pose as a Role-Model to Nigerian Christians instead of incurring hatred between Us and Muslims, they should be interceding for the Nation and Unsaved!
REST THIS CASE!
What is the noise about 'Jesus Joke'? Some xtians are showing bitterness against this man. Afterall, he has apologised!
ReplyDelete@Anonymous 10:11AM
ReplyDeleteShut up your mouth.....Which apology? If it is ur religion(Islam),you know how many people u might ve killed by now on so call "Statement".
So,with his apology,they shouldn't talk?
Mtchwwwwwwwwww!
many commedians make more expensive jokes than this one and many of us will laugh tired. Afterall where have you seen any muslim even boko haram abusing JESUS. The very person JESUS is more respected in islam than in christainity. HE is prophet ISAH (Alaihi salam). Muslims doesnt mention his name without saying what i said in bracket above. therefore if anybody make mockery of that holy man, his apology is to the whole world not CAN (Nigeria) alone. Afterall CAN without Catholic is an emty body.
ReplyDeleteIs El rufai a comedian. Did he post his comments as a comedian? Draw the line. He was acting politically to oppose govt and get followership and shot himself on the foot
DeleteI guess we should re read this twitter handle and assimilate it. Most reactions are not called for.
ReplyDeleteQuran 3:45 O Mary! Allah giveth thee glad tidings of a Word from Him: his name will be Christ
ReplyDeleteJesus, the son of Mary, held in honour in this world and the Hereafter and of (the
company of) those nearest to Allah........Thats a qoute from the quran, i wouldnt say much again but i knw El-rufai was trying to be hilarious ,he ended up making a fool of himself though, but i knw as a true muslim he never meant to disrespect Jesus(May peace of Allah be with him)

@anonymous 1:30, you are not even ashamed of of yourself! You lack knowledge, even common pidgeon english u can't speak talk more of... ILITERATE!. Go school,u can't, is only to learn arabic u know.
ReplyDeletedear GOD, pls give our country a sense of humor as we deal with some idiots today
ReplyDeletewe should stop dissipating much energy on this joke n concentrate on the main issue which is mrs ezekwesili vs FG. Let the parties go for a public debate. Christians n muslims alike, respect JESUS.
ReplyDeleteSo many idiots commenting but am happy amoung the idiot's comments are a few sensible person's comments.
ReplyDeleteEl-Rufai did not create the joke. Why not attack the person who created it? Idiots, fools and blood suckers. If Jesus was ever killed, he will have regreted sheding his blood for these bunch of fools.
Thanks and glory to our Lord God Almighty for Christians who love peace not just religiously but by our daily life living and potrayals. If El-rufai's comment was made on the other side against even their religious book,Nigeria will be up side down now. However, our reasonability should not be taken for granted even though we believe you cannot fight for God.He is a lion(the Lion of the tribe of Judah).Nobody defends a lion,He is capable of defending Himself. So believe me ,El-rufai has matched the tail of the Lion, forget it,the Lion will fight through.
