Gunmen Attack Emir Of Kano, Killing His Driver And Three Guards

Report reaching NE from the ancient city of Kano says, a group of unknown gunmen yesterday, attacked the convoy of the Emir of Kano, Sir Alhaji Dr. Ado Bayero.

The attack took place near the Hockey Field on Zoo Road by Total Gasoline station while the Emir was returning from the launching of an Islamic school at Mussalaci Murtala.

The Emir was unhurt in the attack and has since been moved to an undisclosed location.

Some residents in the area said Nigerian troops of the Joint Task Force later took over the scene of the attack while firing shots.

NE gathered that his driver and three of his guards were reportedly killed.

Unconfirmed report says four people died from the attack.

Eyewitnesses told NE that immediately the emir left the venue of a Quranic competition, a suspected bomb was reported to have gone off in an SUV vehicle before the emir’s vehicle could reach the main road.

This was followed by gunshots from the suspect assailants.

The eyewitnesses said after shooting at the emir’s convoy, the gunmen began shooting sporadically into the air to scare away people.

According to them, it took the courage of the policemen attached to the emir to repel the attack and conveyed Bayero to safety.

Confirming the attack, Spokesman of the Joint Security Task Force (JTF) Captain Ikedichi Iweha said, "Its true the emir’s convoy was attacked but the emir is safe and healthy".

Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, however, confirmed three persons dead.

The governor who made a broadcast to the people of the state on the incident also confirmed that the emir is hale and hearty.

He asked the people to continue to go about their normal businesses.

Kwankwaso denied speculations going round the city that the government had imposed curfew on the state from 6 pm to 6am, stating that no curfew was imposed, as such, people should carry on with their normal businesses.

The sudden pandemonium that followed the attack made some road users especially those plying Zoo Road and other adjoining roads in Kano to, out of the ensuing confusion and fear for their lives, be involved in accidents.

No group had claimed responsibility for the attack at press time but security operatives have swung into action.

Meanwhile, though the dreaded Islamist sect Boko Haram has been on rampage in Kano lately, security agents may look not only in the direction of Boko Haram in the search for the attackers of the highly revered Bayero.

A dependable security source told NE in Abuja that there could be more to the attack than the notorious religious sect.

When asked if they were suspecting any group outside Boko Haram, the source said, “in a situation as we are in some Northern states, virtually all crimes are subsumed in Boko Haram but it is our work to identify and separate them."

House of Representatives Speaker Aminu Waziri Tambuwal condemned the attack, describing it as callous and inhumane.

He said from all indications it was meant to shatter the resolve of peace-loving persons in the federation.

Also, Bauchi State Governor Isa Yuguda described the attack as barbaric and unfortunate.

  4. Where are myopic Nigeria Christians that always attack Emir , Buhari and Others for backing and sponsoring BH in Nigeria .

Now you can see that these people are less concern about your religion .

However , i will implore everyone of us to put aside our religion sentiment and ethnic bigotry and speak in one voice against CORRUPTION .

The life is all about reap and sow .

The small boy from Ilubu ( Osun State ) was lured into BH bcos his parent cannot train him and the society including the government is not helping the situation .

If Government continue to neglect poor and average Nigeria ,all vices in this country will continue to skyrocket .

It is only in Nigeria that Secondary School graduate cannot support themselves to face Challenges of life .

Many India , China and Lebanese in Nigeria dont have any Certificate but they are technically sound .

Why cant we develop and restructure our education system so that Secondary School graduate will be able to stand on there own like we used to have it in 70s and early 80s.

These will boost small scale industry manpower and at the same time contribute to the growth of our nation .

In India and China , Secondary School graduate ( or equivalent ) are working in different capacity at production level.

Come back to the Issue of CORRUPTION , when there is no Industry , Large Scale Farming or Poultry that can employ thousands of Jobless youth .

What do you expect them to do ?

The next available option is Join BH (North) , Kidnapper ,arm robbery and Oil theft(SS and SE ) and arm robbery ( SW ) .

Now you can see that Corruption is the brain and foundation of our problem .

  7. Wow! Some people are bent on disintegrating the already fragile North. To them, this is a one time opportunity. " Use the security situation and eliminate all the strong peole who will stand when the south-south or otherwise want to have there way with the North"

    uhmmmm... What a disaster.

  9. May Allah be with the Emir of Kano and other innocent Nigerians. Nigerian police and other security agencies should use this opportunity to eliminate all the strong people in this country, especially in the north who always love to have their ways in every positions that interest them. Sanusi lamido the present governor of CBN should be no 1 suspect and should be subjected to questioning by the Nigerian police and other security agencies. 1. What is his next plan after leaving the office as the CBN governor? 2. Who is the next Emir? 3.Why is he dressing like an Emir to the office? 4. Where was he when Emir's car was attack? 5.What was his reaction when he had that Emir's car was attack, all these questions an many more must be answered by Sanusi and must made publish..

  12. Evil that men do would surely consume them. The BH is consuming itself.

  13. That is also the problem I av with Nigerian! If u say anything, they look at it from religious angle which never takes the problems away! All we need do is face our problems squarely, God will not come down and fix it for us, He has already given us all it takes to solve our problems. Stop sleeping Nigerians!
