PICTURES: Meet Nigeria’s new terror group, ANSARU

First, it was Boko Haram’s terrorism. As if that is not a nightmare too much for accursed Nigeria already, another terror group has emerged. Its abbreviated name is Ansaru. And its full name just like Boko Haram’s Jamā’atu Ahlis Sunnah Lādda’awatih wal-Jihad is a mouthful: Jama’atu Ansarul Muslimina fi Biladis Sudan.

Photographs here from a video released by the group on Xmas eve, shows unidentified armed members of the group posing in an undisclosed place in November 2012.

The group on December 23, 2012 claimed the recent kidnapping of a French citizen in northern Nigeria, citing France’s push for military intervention in Mali as a justification.

Ansaru “announces to the world, especially the French government, that it was responsible for the abduction of engineer Francis Colump, 63, working for the French company Vergnet,” said a statement emailed to journalists.

Late last Wednesday some 30 gunmen stormed Vergnet’s residence in Katsina state, where the alternative energy firm has a wind power project.
Another pose of the group:

.What should our country do about this new group? Establish another JTF to smash them? Declare full emergency in Katsina state? Let’s share your thoughts for a troubled nation.

  1. JTF has not fully "smashed" Boko Haram and another one springs up, Govt needs to get to the root of the insurgency, you can only solve a problem when you know what caused it. Right now, people say its poverty, others say its religion, some say under development of the north etc. I sincerely believe that with time, Nigeria will get it right

  8. GEJ is not doing anything, his sycophants are saying it is the work of distractors from the north, xtains are saying Muslims are the perpetuators, nobody can talk in the north or else you get killed, if you are in the north e.g Kano you will beleive that the perpetuators are non Nigerians. they kill almost everyday unannounced in kano mostly southerners, where are we heading to? OBJ tell GEJ what to do, he refuse, so the only hope remaining is GOD

  10. They are terrorists,no other name to call them, using religion to cover their faces in order to do evil..Nigeria must resist them in totality, they didn't go to school no notable investment upon them, devil organized them to wast live and investments.their leaders have roles to play in re- orientating them, just because of cultural and religion indoctrination

  11. Corruption is the root of all evil . Everyday ammunition is entering country through sea and land in the presence of corrupt government officials who want to build castle and fly jet like others .

Now , everywhere is corrupted including Government Hospital .

Tell me one ministry that is not corrupted in Nigeria.

Do you believe that ammunition black market is lucrative ask Westerner.

Another thing , do you believe that we dont have proper account for what we are spending on Security in Nigeria , many Politician ( including military ) are gaining heavily now by collecting Contract that are related to Ammunition and security issue .

I am not sure ,whether there is future for this country (PERSONAL OPINION ).

  12. We need restructuring. Political restructuring is the root of our security problems, and that can only be addressed by a national conference to determine what type of system- regionalism, federalism, confederate, or what have u- we want to adopt. By that the respective states or regions will acknowledge the fact that its jurisdiction is its responsibility, not shared with others at the federal level. Once there can be individualism, states or regions will have to devise appropriate measures to address its security problems.

Because states are dependent on the federal for everything today, there is resentment when one region is out of power, witness OPC, Niger Delta Militants, and now Boko Haram. OPC shook the country to its foundation when one of them, Abiola, was denied the presidency. Niger Deltans have practically sheath their swords since they were pardoned and reabsorbed into society. More than ever, we now have relative peace in the Niger Delta region today because one of their own is in the saddle. Boko Haram will cease to destabilize the polity once a Hausa-Fulani is back in power.

Nigeria can only progress when the federal umbilical cord is severed making states independent. At that, states will come up with individual security strategy (human, economic, military) according to its problems. They will provide ID cards, keep a data base to recourse to during investigations and root out criminals.

These amorphous groups cannot be successfully tackled by a distant federal government whose ministers and security rapacious advisers compromise government efforts. If government provides one billion to fight insurgency in say the north, 800 million would have gone into their pockets before any action is taken. By contrast, affected states where such problems erupt would tackle it headlong.

Finally, Nigeria needs a reliable national ID card, not the Obasanjo type. It will go along way in keeping a tab on us and fishing out criminals. A railway network should also be developed so that the northerners can engage themselves agriculturally and earn a decent living by providing food and raw materials for industries. We are not all cut out to go to school for survival sake.

    1. I agree with your submission,my prayer is that it is realized before he'll breaks loose. We may have to go in to civil war /religious war to address this issue,I am not a prophet of doom.
Before a husband gives respect that is of good quality to his wife in a normal situation, there must have inter personal struggle and resolution.
Yes it is obvious North dominated political horizon for a long time ,then west tagged along with the chord of control still in the hands of the North ,now a south south man is there ,only God knows how he is surviving, the south east is still yet to taste it well, because of previous, pre mature revolution that led to civil war, though it could be justified because of mass murder of that ethinic people residing in the north,
How long do we keep going in circles.
Your write up on political restructuring is the closest and I think smartest.
In a sane political environment your senator or house representative would have taken you in for proper discuss,of which should have been brought up for entire national discuss.
I salute you and Nigerian eye

  16. Use FULL Force? on who? Where are they? You want the whole state or innocent people to be wipe out in an effort to kill one or two lunatics? I think the only mistake the president is making is treating the evil political class with a glove hand, especially, those that had threatened him or his government before! But one thing is clear,Today it is the Church, but it may be the turn of the Mosque tomorrow! There is a limit to any thing, including tolerance!
