The Osun State Government has offered free train rides to thousands of the state natives and other people transiting from Lagos to Osun and neighbouring states.
This gesture was in continuation of the free train ride service embarked upon by the government during festive periods, which started in 2011.
A statement by the Director, Osun Bureau of Communication and Strategy, Mr Semiu Okanlawon, on Tuesday said the free train ride service underscored the responsiveness of the government to the plight of the masses.
The statement read in part, “The first batch of the train passengers was brought into Osun and neighbouring states such as Ogun, Oyo and Kwara.
“During the last Ramadan, free train ride service was offered by the state government to take Osun-bound passengers from Lagos to Osun and other neighbouring states.
“Passengers were also taken by the train service free of charge to Lagos State after festive periods in Osun State.”
The statement said as early as 10am, an Osun-bound train was filled at the Agege terminus, Lagos with many of the passengers commending the initiative of the government.
The statement quoted a native of Ile-Ogbo, Pastor Oyewole Sunday, as saying the train service was safer, cheaper and exciting.
Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Chief Sunday Akinrogun, said the train would depart Osogbo on Wednesday (today) to take passengers back to Lagos.
Akere added that the train would convey passengers to Osun State on Sunday, December 30 and Monday, December 31, 2012 free of charge while it would return to Lagos with passengers on January 2, 2013.
