‘Clerics buy private jets for evangelism’

The President and Founder, Global Harvest Church, Pastor Victor Adeyemi, has attributed the need for private jets by clerics in the country to challenges of evangelism.

Adeyemi spoke on Sunday during the first anniversary of Global Harvest Church, Outer Ring Road branch, Ibadan.

The clergy said recent criticism by the public on the perceived affluent lifestyles of men of God was needless considering the challenges attached to their calling and the need to meet up with the demands of their duties.

He said, “It is very unfortunate that the acquisition of private jets has coloured the image of the pentecostal churches. They accuse many of living lavish lifestyles and just looking for comfort at the expense of the poor congregation. For me, it is a matter of perspective. Looking at a nation like ours where there is high prevalence of poverty, you can think that way.

“Of course, I cannot hold brief for people who have acquired one. However, I can certainly tell you that one of the people that own one has branches of their churches in well over 100 nations of the world.

“As a businessman or a preacher who runs a very busy schedule requiring you to be in several nations of the world within days or in a week, you may need it.

“On a particular mission from Kenya to Nigeria we had a convention in Nigeria, and we were stuck at the airport in Kinshasha, Zaire for more than 12 hours before we were able to get a connecting flight to Nigeria.”

The cleric explained that the need to attend urgent programmes and safety required the men of God to buy private jets.

Adeyemi, who also attributed poor infrastructure in Africa to poverty and lack of willpower to deliver good governance by the leadership, said that “It is certain that evil rulers will eat the fruits of their doings.”

The Pastor in Charge, Global Harvest Church, Outer Ring Road branch, Ibadan, Olumide Adewumi, warned that members of the public should be safety-conscious during the coming Christmas and New Year celebrations.

  1. To this Pastor who claims an MOG has a branch in over 100 countries, I ask; 'Are there no pastors in charge of those branches?' I'd help reply-There are! That simply means they'll go there once in a while to see how the faith is growing there. Waiting in the airport for 12hrs to 2days is part of the sacrifice the Christian calling requires. Apostle Paul suffered ship wrecks and countless hardships and in the end rejoiced in all of them.
Everyone looks for a way to justify his greed and predilection for vanity. I only wonder what messages you teach your congregants. Its all the more obvious that most MOG's have fled from Christ's incorruptible teachings..

  2. "The challenges attached to their calling" to feather their nests at the expense of hapless Nigerians. Who initiated the calling? God? These pastors actually fancy themselves as God's business partners conferred with exclusive privileges from "god" to relate directly with him on our behalf. What a joke!

  5. An excuse is worse than a lie bcos an excuse is a lie being defended. Does this man mean to say private jest don't run late? And that it does not fall behind schedules? There are successful business men who travel the world more than our men of God and the do well keeping appointment. And come to think of it, do you have to visit all your branches everyday cos you are GO? Moses was told to delegate cos he didn't have to be present in all matters. Pls, the Bibles emphasize that Christians should leave a simple life and have a simple eye. And that with food sustenance we should be content.( 1tim 6:8) does having a private jets sound simple or content?pls view the words of the bible KJVof 1tim 6: 6-8
6 But godliness with contentment is great gain.
7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.
8 And having food and raiment let us be therewith content
Hello pastor Gods servant must b rich it is and was never Jesus' teaching for he said his disciples will suffer for righteousness sake. God help them see thing your way.

  6. It's unfortunate that fƠ̴̴̴̴͡я̩̥̊ most of us, our minds are made up αϞ∂ we quickly jump †☺ criticize 'MEN OF GOD' who owns private jets, forgeting that †ђξ Bible condemns us from judging.
A pastor has Churches in over 100 countries αϞ∂ U̶̲̥̅̊ expect him †☺ just rely on residing pastors, excuse me! While †ђξ General Overseer sud Ƅƺ in †ђξ 'comfort' of his house, άßì? Meanwhile, lots of souls are going †☺ hell daily. Why didn't we say apostle Paul sud av stayed in Tarsus or treked all †ђξ way, instead of entering ships on various missions??? Didn't JESUS announce a 'glorious' coming at †ђξ passover in Galilee??? Most of these missions reach out †☺ †ђξ poor, most people don't kη☺ω cos †ђξ Bible forbids us from making popular such deeds or what happens †☺ †ђξ riches of †ђξ Gentiles God promised xtains?
Beloveth, let †ђξ God of men judge every1, even our Men of God, we can't take God's place αϞ∂ judge them. In America, lots of ministries have private jet, this ℓ̊§ only a poverty mentality from Nigerians.
FƠ̴̴̴̴͡я̩̥̊ me, if it's fƠ̴̴̴̴͡я̩̥̊ evangelism, nothing ℓ̊§ greater than soul winning

Nigeria is a very religious country yet most UNREPENTANT! all the people in power are affiliated to one church or the other and all the big pastors are affiliated to the corridors of power. They dont even speak against the outright evil going on right arround them. who is fooling who? Pastors indeed! please look for another name.
