Chelsea lost to Corinthians, 0-1.
Europeans Champions, Chelsea FC of England, lost the final of the FIFA Club World Cup Championship to South American Champions, Corinthians of Brazil, 0-1.
The only goal of the game was score by Paulo Guerrero in the second half when he nodded the ball home while three Chelsea players looked at him in the 69th minute.
Chelsea’s Gary Cahill was sent off in the 90th minute while a Fernando Torres goal in the 90th minute was rightly disqualified for off-side.
Nigerian international, Victor Moses, played the first 73 minutes before he was replaced by Brazilian Oscar. Mikel Obi was an unused substitute in the match.
After the match, Chelsea’s captain of the day, Frank Lampard, described the loss as sad; saying they expected their Brazilian opponents to play an organised counter-attacking football which they did very well.
Earlier in the day, African Champions, Al-Ahly of Egypt, lost 0-2 to Monterrey Football Club of Mexico in the third-place match.
Al Ahly, like Chelsea, missed several goal scoring opportunities during the match.
The match ended 2 – 0 in favour of Monterrey, the CONCACAF champions. Monterrey also won the FIFA fair play award. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday
