PRIVATE JET: Religious leaders Condem Pastor Tunde Bakare after his remarks

RELIGIOUS leaders including the General Secretary of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev. Musa Asake; Director of National Issues of CAN in charge of North West Zone, Rev. Haruna Karatu; and the PRO of 19 northern states and Abuja CAN, Elder Sunday Oibe have condemned the comments credited to Pastor Tunde Bakare who was calling for a revolution because certain eminent religious leaders have private jets, saying there is nothing wrong with people donating aircraft to their religious leaders.

Bakare had said, a few days after church members donated a private jet to Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor as a birthday present, that a bloody revolution that would consume religious leaders who are acquiring private jets would soon break out in the country, as he urged their congregations to challenge them to explain where and how they raised the money to procure such expensive jets.

Responding, the CAN secretary said: “What is wrong with giving a birthday gift to Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor? Did he embezzle church money? Did he collect somebody’s money? If a group of people come together to buy him a jet to ease his evangelical work, why should that be a subject of public debate?

“Oritsejafor is a man of God. He is doing everything for the work of God”. Also speaking on the ongoing debate in social media especially the tweet by former Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Mallam Nasir el Rufai, Elder Eghes Eyieyien said Nigerian pastors who own private jets should not be envied because they travel very frequently around the world ministering.

“Redeemed Christian Church of God has thousands of branches and millions of members on all continents of the world. Winners’ Chapel and Christ Embassy equally have many international branches and hundreds of thousands of members. Pastor Adeboye, Bishop Oyedepo and Pastor Oyakhilome travel thousands of kilometres monthly doing God’s work and have to be in places not well-served by commercial flights.

  1. Why not take the WORK of GOD to places in Nigeria like the NORTH where it is needed most? Let's get our home settled first before jetting out to other places.

  2. Hmmmm, we have a very long way to go in this country. If the so call religious leaders can come on air to say that oritsejafor needs a private jet to carry out God's work, it shows that they are not in any way better that the highly corrupt politicians who are determined to drain the resources of this country. I pitty those who spend their money to enrich these so call men of God thining they are paying tite or sowing a seed in the name of God. It is high time we start diverting such money in feeding the poor one in our community rather than giving them, may God help us.

  4. I agree with anonymous that say each and every pastor that has Private Jet should question there biggest donor source of income.

Just be sincere ,how many Nigeria can give such a gift without taking from government pulse weather
    directly or indirectly.

  5. Leave all of them , God will teach lesson one day .

Mark my world , it is not a cause , it will surely happen .

Cant you question this donor source of income , if it is from clean and uncorrupt source ," no wahala" ( no problem ), continue using it,

however ,if it is from unclean source , just know that " WAHALA dey o "( Problem around the corner ).

Can we rate Nigeria Man of God using Jesus way of life as yardstick ?

    1. When are you and millions of Christians like you going to get out of this bondage of fear where they tell you "Judge not so you won't be Judged" or "touch not my anointed" or "the wrath of God will come upon you when you talk about Pastors" etc. See wake up from your slumber and receive the freedom Christ purchase for you through his blood. Peter the Apostle was hypocritical and Paul who is junior to him in everything called him to order. There is nothing wrong to see what is wrong and say it. Infact a scripture clearly says: "Have no fellowship with the unfruitful work of darkness but rather, Rebuke them". So rebuking the frevolities of these Pastors is not wrong.

Erastus Akingbola was a Pastor and was caught in the scandal of money laundering etc. Nigerians never prosecuted him. He embezzled millions of dollars which are blood of the people. The United Kingdom did not see anything anointed about him, he was thrown to jail and told to refund those money. See if you continue in your fear of "touch not my anointed" the society will be more corrupt and God will judge you and I for it. You saw it and never said anything about it.

My advise, all of you encouraging the frevolities of these Pastors, stop giving them

  28. Yes we know d world is changing, technology has come with so many things possible. But also remember that Christ had a power to tour d world preaching d gospel but he concentrated in some areas where he traveled either by foot or by boat. Even when he can afford d best 4 Himself but choose to live a life of a common man. Then Christ commissioned his disciples to further spread d gospel, and his disciples commissioned other converts to continue d work of evangelism. What we are witnessing today is greed on d side of these so called General Overseere. What are they overseeing? Money of cause, they acquire these jets to enable them coordinate cash coming in from various branches. Why not visit an area then commission new members to further d spread of d word of God then use whatever donations or gifts they receive to help d poor in our society. It is very simple, they should stop deceiving us. Christ commissioned d disciples, who in turn commissioned new converts, why won't these G.O's commission other people to carry on with d good news. They want comfort instead of sacrifice which is d basis of christainity! Too bad!!

  30. May God Almighty punish all of you saying you should not judge these greedy and money conscious men you called General Overseers. Who is judging who here? People are talking about Men Of God deviating from the purpose for which they were called and some foolish and stupid idiots are here telling us about wrath. What do u even know about christianity? Some of you guys now worship them instead of God Almighty. What has Private Jets got to do with preaching the the Words of God? Nigeria is one of the poorest countries in the world and these men are exploiting the poor congregations. Have any of you heard of wealth distribution? No. All you and Pastors know is wealth acquisition. God is watching you all.

  32. Judge not....MY FOOT
It appears that ignorance and fear of the unknown has taken its toll on some persons who already see these 'MOG' as demigods. The scripture verse which says 'do not judge' precedes the verse that says 'by their fruits, you shall know them'. Jesus who even used these words passed condemnation on the Pharisees times without number in what appeared to be blatant insults to them. All these persons hiding under that verse 'Judge not' please read your bibles with the right understanding. The Old testament prophets were not from the line of Priests yet they were chosen to rebuke priests, Kings and the people. Read about Jeremiah, Isaiah, Hosea, and so on.
And now it is very clear by the fruits of these Pastors that they have lost their calling, if they were ever called in the first place. Nigeria is certainly among the poor nations of the world. Read about the early church and what characterised their way of life; 'mutual sharing'. And I would think new generation Churches that flee orthodoxy would choose that path as the keystone of their christian life. But they have grown worse. Pastors now have fleet of cars besides the untouched Posh ones. And with private jets and aeroplanes, how else can one define affluence? They skin the flock alive with carefully selected verses on tithing and sowing seeds. They don't carefully select the verses that emphasize giving to widows and orphans as the requisite of the true religion (James 1:27).
'Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. But you, man of God, flee these things, and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, and gentleness'(1Timothy 6:11-12).

  34. Well its now to read your comments here, I have also learn t a lot from you guys here and thanks for sense of reasoning too, my own view is this, the donors and not the Pastor in quote. Don't the donors and the Pastor of the Church know that there are poor people in their midst? then why not put such funds into welfare project that will ease the suffering of the poor members in the Church, again will JESUS CHRIST buy JET when the people are hungry?, so please MEN of GOD look into your congregation and seek out the POOR, the NEEDY and especially the WIDOWS, in the Church and help. May GOD Bless you as you do so.

Please educate yourself and seperate fact from fiction.

  37. For those quick to rush to the defence of thse so called General Overseers: $10million for you; husbands and wives for the singles and twins for the childless, how many of you will still be this stupid and foolish? Your problem is poverty, until that problem is solved, you will never be in control of your senses. I bet you Jesus wouldn't do this if He is still around now with greater percentage of the church living below poverty level.

  39. Please, do not turn the Bible upside down. Christ said do not judge so that you will not be judged but it is obvious that he mentioned cos judgement is his (GODS). He is talking about judging who goes to hell. dont you judge your children when their action is not proper or when they misbehave and even punish them to correct them out of love. It is judgement. Dont judges pronounce judgements in Courts. Lets read the bible in the right perspective so that we will not mislead others.

  40. Men and brethren,we give impetus to this issue by stoking it up. We should do best to ignore whether there is plane or no plane. These men of God are God's servants. To their master they stand or fall.If you are a bible-student, you will not ''touch the anointed of the lord''Don't lay any charge against them either. To their master they stand or fall period.

  41. Even the way you speak makes it obvious that you are not a christian (stupid, foolishness, crazy etc). 44. Na wa o. This interesting. So what i am hearing hear that is for those saying judge not is that instead of advocating and campaigning for the poor where they feed under less than$2 per day we should keep mute?

    - Outside of procuring a bombadier jet for for 5 billion naira
-at least $8, 000 is required to pay for each rest a jet makes at a hangar. The $8k is for Abuja hangar so lets multiply that by at least 10 visits in a month ($80,000)
    - staffing: Air hostesses (2) for the jet
    Kitchen utilities, equipments and utensils
    - Fueling of the jet
    - Tyres are replaced bi monthly (did you know?)
    -Maintainance of the jet
Levies, Taxes and Duties to Aviation Staturoty bodies
    Licensing
Overheads for Pilot, air hostesses et al

Where will these funds come from?
    Interesting. Judge not ko?

  45. Some people complain, shout and criticize men of God for using private jets yet they remain in poverty. It is not a curse but don't you think if God is really angry with them for using private jets he will punish their sins. Who made you the judge anyway. Keep complaining and remain in your abject poverty or face your God and let him bless you.
