Candidate for the Peoples Democratic Change in the October 20 governorship election in Ondo State, Mr. Victor Adetusin, has asked the Election Petitions Tribunal in the state to cancel the poll.
The cancellation, he said, was necessary as the PDC’s logo was not printed on the ballot paper used for the election.
He said the development made him to lose many votes to the Labour Party candidate, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, who eventually won the election.
Adetusin stated this in the 34-page petition filed by his counsel led by Mr. Yinka Orokoto, at the tribunal in Akure.
He claimed that those votes credited to the LP candidate were his votes and should be counted for him.
Adetusin further alleged that the Independent National Electoral Commission, deliberately omitted its party’s logo, which was similar to that of the LP.
The INEC’s action, he said, made many voters, who would have voted for him, to wrongly vote for the LP candidate.
He, therefore, sought an order of the tribunal to nullify the victory of Mimiko.
He also prayed the tribunal to conduct fresh election in the state.
The PDC petition has brought to four, the number of political parties and their candidates that are challenging the victory of Mimiko election.
The Action Congress of Nigeria and the Accord Party had earlier filed their petitions, alleging large-scale irregularities.
The respondents in the various petitions are Mimiko, the LP, INEC, the Resident Electoral Commission for the state, Mr. Akin Orebiyi, and the Returning Officer, Prof. Biyi Daramola
